Its impossible to say I definately don't want him back at 31/32 because you don't know what type of player he will be then. However he's very unlikely to be as good as now, certainly not as a striker.

It needs to be this year or next IMO. For both to get the best out of the deal. Don't really see the point of a Rooney return unless its to come and be the hero and win us a trophy/take us on a level. I'm pretty sure Rooney wouldn't want to come here as a has been also.
 

I really hate how everyone keeps stating opinion as fact in this thread.

No one knows what Rooney is thinking or has ever thought. He could still be such a massive blue that he'll come back for a quarter of his current wage or on the flip side he could be such a mercenary that he wants to move to Russia or China to make a million pounds every fortnight, we just don't know.

In the next two years we will know one way or another as his contract runs out so he will either extend, get sold or run it down.

If he runs his contract down and joins us on a free he will be an absolute hero to me.

I can see why people wouldn't want Rooney back when he's 30+, but don't deny that he will still be boss in his 30s. You know it to be true.

Good post. I'd love him to come back but IMO he'd just go for another payday contract, and who can blame him? The idea of more money is always attractive regardless of how much money you have.
