O'Neill Resigns

Here's a musical interlude for any Villa fans that happen to drop in. "I question the timing..."

If they ever really had a window of opportunity, that window has closed.

As far as i know he did not turn the job down, he's still interested. May only be on a part-time basis who knows.

I could be wrong, but I think his first choice would be to stay in LA and manage the USMNT. The only reason he didn't take the job last time was because he wanted some things written in his contract that US Soccer would have given him, but not made formal in the contract. He was VERY close to being named. Then they went with Bradley. I just can't imagine Klinsmann taking over a what now looks to be a mid table Villa side with no money, no spending power, and uprooting his family from LA to Birmingham. Bradley on the other hand would bite your hand off for the job. As would Curbishley I think.

Didn't we have some of their beauts gloating on this fine forum last season or so? Super stuff, they are near enough absolute c*nts to a man of deluded biffs with their [Poor language removed] songs and "shall we sing a song for you". I sincerely hope they return to fade into nothingness again now.

On a sidenote, O'Neill is a bit of a phoney and has just dropped them right in it. They'll probably play better football now, well if Milner and Young weren't going they would.

He's the new Harry!

O'Neill bought Reo-Coker for 8m, Sidwell for 5mil, Davies for 10m and has hardly ever played them! We bought Kroldrup, realised he was the wrong defender (love that story) and shipped him out sharpish.

If you'll believe me, the deal MON wanted for Milner was M. Johnson, N Onuoha, and S. Ireland, with the remaining £15m to spend on other players.

Lerner said no, he wanted all the £30m for the club.
Posted on Villa Talk, by someone who a few hours before this news was announced posted info about that... and got killed for spamming by other members there of course ;).

Matt Damon - still would take Lerner over Kenwright anytime. You can blame him for allowing O'Neill to spend too much (especially on wages), but he would be criticized if he wouldn't allow it - for not trusting his manager. Really lost a lot of respect for O'Neill now, for not being interested in working at Villa, when owner decided to keep things under more strict control.

MADNESS.

LERNER sanctioned spending on players that frankly if Bill allowed you'd be going mental.

LERNER'S A TERRIBLE OWNER. Not one cent has been "GIVEN" to Aston Villa - it's all loans from his investment fund and money put in to generate asset value (£179 million since he bought the club in 2006, with £95 million in equity and a further £84 million in loans) .

But have they actually generated VALUE i.e. has that £95million been added to the club's value?

NO. Turnover's not keeping pace and is relatively static and wages have ballooned!

A rise in player wages to £70.6 million, up from £50.4 million. Lerner also authorised the payment of £7.7 million in "management charges" to Villa's US-based holding company.
Economics of the mad house.

LERNER-WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OH AND I TOLD YOU SO.

Yeah, I recall the horror when Bill spent all that money on Yakubu, money we clearly didnt have. Oh wait, there wasnt any horror, we were just happy we had spent some money without selling for once.

OH. And it says it all when Milner's transfer fee money is being used to pay off DEBT that's been incurred since LERNER-WRONG took over!!!!!

Villa's business model is A FRICKEN JOKE! Anyone who reckons Lerner's a great owner need to wake up and smell the coffee.

But Bill hasn't allowed the club's wage budget to balloon to 90% of our turnover. LERNER-WRONG DID!

Madness, two things spring to mind!

A) His wife hasnt enjoyed the best of health, hopefully its nothing like that.

B) Regardless of Milner, i think he got a thumbs down on any money to invest in the squad, they let Shorey go as well today, i wouldnt be surprised if they accpeted a bid for Young from Spurs as well.

O Neill is a man with great honest integrity and resiliance something big has happened there - they must be totally skint.

Best of luck Martin.

* This is totally ace for us, all we need is Manchini to be gone by Xmas and we're laughing.
