Do not get that Bent deal.

£4mill? Nah. Have him on loan instead .

Does not make sense.

He has gone on a season long loan with an option for Fulham to purchase next season. He agreed the same terms with us, told us he would sign while his "advisors" were at Fulham giving them the details of their clients deal with us and inviting Fulham to bid the same (allegedly) which they did. Fulham's bid was also acccepted and so he went to them.
........I wish him well I really do.....

Palace have signed Florent Mourange, a LB who can cover at CB on a free from Bordeaux. Former French u19 international. Fell out with Laurent Blanc so on his way to Selhurst.

I'm quietly confident Villa will end up comfortably in mid-table
Their form towards the end of the season was very good, their young players more confident and composed (their thrashing of Sunderland a highlight).
It was a brave move offloading all the old high-earners, which easily could have ended with relegation, but what they've done now is totally restructured the club's current wage-structure, and made themselves a team of young improving talents. I'd love Everton to do this (albeit in a more staggered way).
As for losing Bent, not the biggest loss for them considering that they chose not to play him last season anyway when Benteke wasn't available- due to the fact that his contract was so bloody exorbitant. His appearance fee was allegedly outrageous. So they're used to not having him as an option, and I personally Andreas Weiman is going to have a particularly good season.

Before they went for such a major overhaul I thought that Villa would have a really good young team for the future. I liked Albrighton in particular, but he seems to have fallen out of favour. My concern is that they're heavily reliant on Benteke for goals and, if he was playing last season for a move to a bigger club, he might not be so effective this year. I like Wiemann too and they still have players like Agbonlahor and N'Zogbia, so I suppose they can't be totally written off. I think the Guardian said that Lambert has done some really shrewd business this summer. Maybe it will turn out alright then?

Their wage bill last year was still immense, though.

They didn't play bent, ireland, zogbia, hutton, dunne, given, agbonlahor etc much but they were still paying them. Which is very much the worst of both worlds.

As plans go it was pretty awful.

Agreed. It's a little strange that they've decided to sit tight rather than agitating for playing time or a move. Perhaps Villa are paying top dollar in wages, other clubs aren't prepared to offer similar terms and Lerner isn't willing to offer any incentive. It's sad that they put money (or principle) before playing out what is left of their career.

Why would falling out with the PSG manager force him out of Bordeaux ?

Don't think Palace are doing too badly in the market so far.
