Other teams summer transfer deals/ rumors

Whether or not it's a good deal that Southampton have made is irrelevant.

The fact is, they've spent nearly £30m on two players this summer, without selling anyone for significant money. That's investing into the team.

That they're able to do this and outspend us when just 4 YEARS AGO they were in ADMINISTRATION and in LEAGUE ONE is even more galling, and asks even more serious questions as to why they can spend like this and have this investment whilst we can't. Why Bill Kenwright's 'keep the ship steady' approach equates to 'do/spend/invest nothing without sales first', which eventually is an approach that will catch up with us and lead to the club being overtaken and falling down the table.

We shouldn't have to keep relying on miraculous work by a manager to keep bailing us out. A manager needs the tools to work with.

Also they've sold Chamberlain, Jones, Bale, Walcott, Crouch, Beattie and Bridge over the last 10 years.

Their owner is/was worth £3 billion! Being the biggest team on the south coast and being able to pick them up from administration were no doubt huge factors in why he bought them.

They're building an impressive side. I like Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana and then of course their is Lambert. Rodriguez and Ramirez have shown flashes of quality too.

How are we outspent by Southampton and Norwich, such financial powerhouses?

As mentioned already, Southampton's billionaire owner left funds in trust for them.

Norwich made a profit of £13.5m in their last set of accounts (2011/12) and their debt was £11.3m (down £5.3m). Last season they had a net spend of £9.4m, leaving them £4.1m change. They've had a net spend of £21m this summer. If their profit for last year had increased to £16.9m, which is perfectly conceivable, they won't have even touched the tv money yet!
