Our gutless, ineffective midfield

Davies, Delph, Gomes in my opinion should not be judged and hammered for their goals and assist contributions. If we had two solid CM’s who actually kept the team ticking and controlled the game that would enable our attacking players to create when we actually have the ball!

They should, however, be judged on their complete lack of positional knowledge, the inability to make a meaningful challenge , and lack of guile to create anything going forward!

Yes, they don’t all have to be scoring 7-10 a season. But we can and should judge them if they’re only scoring or assisting about 2 goals every 40 games. And that’s a generous, off the top of my head guess.

Our midfield has been a problem for years. Very average players not wanted by other clubs. Walcott, iwobi, delph, siggy ,throw in davis. My God woeful. More culling needed

Second to most 50/50s today, inability to keep the ball, nobody put a challenge in. I was screaming win it, get into them, keep it constantly. So so so so so poor. It only changed at half time when we went 352 that might be the only way to go till the end of this horrible season.

It might be the worst performing midfield of ours I've ever seen. They can't run, press, turn, tackle, pass or shoot. They also leave tons of space in the middle. I refuse to believe that some of the youth like Markelo, Adeniran or Baningime could do any worse.

The whole team is gutless. Just mentioned in another post one of the things that grinds my gears is a lack of protest from the players. Not one of them appealed against that penalty yesterday, not even Gomes who knew it weren’t a penalty. Not one of them had a word with the referee after Richarlison was being booted off the park, yet when he went through one of their players they (Saints players) all crowded Mason, which led to Richarlison being given a booking. There’s no fight or desire in these jokers and I’m tried of them all. Sick of hearing “well he’s not suited to be playing in a 2 man midfield blah de blah” they’re professional premier league footballers, the minimum you expect is some effort and desire and we can’t even get it out of most of this team of duds. It’s pathetic and unacceptable.

The most worrying aspect is that Brands signed 5 of them. Hardly a ringing endorsement for the great Architect is it.

Tell you something that grinds my gears is when you read or hear, fatigue has played a part because we played Mon and dont expect things to be better on Sunday as we have a short recovery time
Well what happens if these clowns get into Europe or at the latter stages of a cup one year.

As others have said this is the worst midfield we have ever had, slow, cant tackle, dont score or assist and cant keep the ball.
