Our gutless, ineffective midfield

The gutless midfield needs gutting.

Of
Gordon
Gomes
Delph
Sigurdsson
Iwobi
Davies
Gbamin
Bernard
Walcott

I'd only keep Gordon.

The most worrying aspect is that Brands signed 5 of them. Hardly a ringing endorsement for the great Architect is it.

Harsh on Gomes and Gbmanin with injuries, but yeah those 2 and Gordon for me, everyone else can do one.

I do think it will look more robust in the next game.

Sidibe being back allows Carlo to shift to having Coleman more as a a third centre back and we look more like we have a 3 in the centre of midfield as the wide left midfielder comes inside and Sidibe and Digne almost become the wingers - you could see it in the last match with how centrally Gordon played in the second half.

To be fair, I’m eager to see what brands does this summer. He’s not this god-like DoF... but In some kind of defence he was recruiting last summer for a different manager and a different formation.

I get that a good player is a good player irrespective of formation though. Looks like we’ve gone for specialists (that it turns out aren’t that special in a 4-4-2) rather than good all round players (if that makes sense).

Yeah defo, we need to be returning to an almost Moyes ideology of having a core group of quality players who can fill various roles.

Our midfield -

Midfield is obviously a problem but not the only one.
Any chances they do create which are few and far between are often missed by DCL. Last night for example.
Our only plan of attack is down the left, however this has also now been limited with the poor form of Bernard and Iwobi.

Coleman on the other side is the most right footed player I’ve seen. The amount of times he goes forward but then has to cut back and go backwards onto his right foot is unbelievable.
A new right back who can use their left foot should be looked into as well.

I agree Delboy that DCL is not all that...

But frankly Carlo has to buy two really good midfielders and a top winger and hope the team
takes off. I for one can live with our defence and and would never buy Gabriel whilst we have a dysfunctional midfield and attack. Question of priorities..

I wish someone could call out all these "we will respond against X" by these gutless excuses for players. Yes mister I focus more on looking like a hipster than what is paying me millions a year Davies. "You said you would respond and, yet, you looked even worse. How is that going for you?"

Absolutely pathetic from everyone..

We've been creating too few chances all season. Yesterday it was Richarlison who bailed us out. Without the goals our front two have been getting from meagre service, and a few goals from corners, our shortcomings would be all the more glaring.

Play Baningime and Adeniran against Wolves, what have we got to lose? At least they will be mobile and combative.

Every game since the restart has seen Ancelotti forced to change tactics and formations to compensate for us being overrun in midfield.

Brands has to get it right this summer and fix the problem. Sigurdsson, Davis, Iwobi, Delph are simply not good enough. They need shipping out and replaced with quality.
