i would defo take him!

owen and the yak (IF he comes back the player he was) up front would be ruddy ace!!!!!!! imo!

How many goals did we put on a plate for Jo this season? Or Saha for that matter.

Hopefully with Arteta we will be a lot more creative (again), but if we are being honest, we aren't the most creative side.

Im not saying we wont put them on the plate, I was merely pointing out that Saha can score goals from nothing - Owen can't.

If Moyes decides he wants Owen, than that's fine with me. It isn't really such a big risk we're taking. He won't be our first choice striker if Yakubu is fit. Owen guarantees a decent goal return and would be a more than decent back up to Yakubu and Saha.

Also think Owen would be a perfect role model for James Vaughan. Think he would benefit enormously from having someone like Michael Owen in training every day.

Interesting.

He scored 10 goals last seasons for a struggling Newcastle.

So if Newcastle can lay 10 goals on the plate for Owen, am pretty sure we could. He scored more this season than any of our players.

Would also say every player relies on sharpness.

Yeah they most likely do. But Owen more so. He doesn't have height or strength - If someone like Fellaini lost any sharpness he had, he would still have height and strength, therefore compensating for the lack of sharpness....Owen hasn't anything to contribute for that!

The point was - if Newcastle can assist him over 10+ goals a season, then I see no reason why he couldn't replicate it for us.

Ricardo Fuller scored 10 in 33 games for Stoke.
Carlton Cole scored 10 in 27 for West Ham.
Djibril Cisse scored 10 in 35 for Sunderland.

If they can score those goals at those teams just think how many they could score here.

I don't see Owen giving us anything they wouldn't. I reckon we could get a ten goal a season striker who is cheaper and more reliable than Owen easy.

Louis Saha!!!!!!!!!!!

The answer is on our doorstep!!!!

We don't need to go and find a striker!!!

Your missing the point entirely.

The argument was, "Owen only scores goals that are laid on the plate for him".

Maybe so - but he is the best in the business at doing so - hence outscoring any of our players in a shocking Newcastle side. With the likes of Arteta and Pienaar, we're more than capable of providing good chances for Owen.

Just shot yourself in the foot with that last bit there mate.

He outscored everyone in a shocking Newcastle team..........

I think Owen would probably score a few goals here, but so will Saha next season!

?

What? How?

Owen has undoubtedly been restricted to few chances in a shocking Newcastle side, yet has still entered double figures. Interesting that.

Outscored 9 other awful players. There was noone else scoring goals, every single thing they done went to him to finish. It wouldn't be like that for us.

Kinda pointless discusion unless we know Owen's goals per chance ratio really.

Fair comment. I would hazard a guess it is poorer than half the strikers in the PL, though, which would include Saha. Plus, at least with Saha you know he'll do more than hang around the box like the world owes him a living.

Exactly. Saha can make something for himself! We need that type of player. Imagine Owen and Yakubu not moving from the penalty area for 90 minutes

I think thats completely wrong tbh. If Yakubu has the ball he can make something from 30 yards out. Saha seems to spend all his time on the half way line, not creating anything for himself, but holding the ball up. It would be great in a 4-4-2, sadly he didnt know he was a lone striker in a 4-5-1.

Getting Owen as said before is basically risk free. With Arteta in the Owen and Yakubu will get goals, they make clever runs, and Arteta is clever enough to spot them.

Plus think of our ariel ability in the box with Owen in the team: Cahill, Fellaini, Owen, Yobo, Lescott, Jagielka, with Baines, Pienaar, Neville and Arteta whipping in the crosses.
