and this from a player who has been in and out through injury, playing with a [Poor language removed] demotivated newcastle team under three or four different managers, after losing the pace of his younger years.

he's simply world class at putting it in the back of the net.

Apart from the world class bit, we were saying that about a certain Saha in the summer, not exactly turned out great has it

He has - on his own - won us 2 games, giving us basically 5 points more than we wouldve had without him. Id say thats pretty good, for the little amount that we payed for him

We need a striker who will offer more than 2 games. Thats what your getting with people who are constantly injured. Vdm is one of the most talented at the club but its no use when he always has an injury

According to the lads on Sunday Supplement he's on 180 grand a week and he isn't likely to take a pay cut.

He's also 29 today supposedly. We can afford to take a gamble on somebody like Saha who's willing to have average wages but not on somebody like Owen.

I'd don't like the idea of having two injury prone strikers who are both 30 and nearly 30. I'd take him if he was willing to drop his wages to 40-50 grand a week but I can't see it.

There's no point in paying 80-100 grand a week to someone who isn't even our star striker. He would not be the best player we have on our books and there is a chance he could find himself on the bench condisering we struggle in a 4-4-2. He can't lead the line in a 4-5-1, he doesn't offer enough.

I'd love him here but i really can't see why he would want to join us, especially as he's always going to play week in, week out at Newcastle.

The fact that we don't have any money is another factor too.

He's a quality player but i think Saha is better.

papers are reporting that Kinnear is intersted in Baines.

Would anyone consider a swap deal?

Its not like Baines has made much of an impact on Moyes, although as a local lad he is very popular with the fans.

I've always said if he had any sense he should come to the team he supported as a kid and play out a few of his remaining years, cap off his career.

Wont happen like.

BBC SPORT | Football | My Club | Newcastle | Owen will not be sold - Kinnear

Newcastle boss Joe Kinnear says Michael Owen will not be sold in the January transfer window even if the striker refuses to sign a new contract.

The striker's contract expires in the summer and he will meet Kinnear on Tuesday to discuss a new deal.

"Michael knows I want him to stay and we won't be accepting any offers for him," Kinnear told BBC Sport.

What a fool, as if its up to him.
