Cast your mind back a few seasons and post Marco Silva
we were rumoured to be in for Arteta (albeit how crediblethe rumours were is another matter). Instead we appointed Carlo Ancelotti.
Arteta had his struggles at Arsenal initially and Ancelotti had us dreaming of Europe for roughly 2/3 of his one and only season.
At time we possibly felt we'd got the better deal and
the Guardian published a nice piece looking at the respective gambles both clubs took.
Fair to say Arsenal won the war, so to speak, with their gamble paying off. But in a parallel universe where we appointed Arteta I wonder if he'd have turned us around.
Would his tactical acumen and man management have won through? Would he have been hobbled by our board? Just two of many questions.
