Parallel Everton 1: What if we'd have appointed Arteta?

I wouldn't have swapped the time we had with Ancelotti for anything; we'll always be able to say that one of the all time managerial greats was our manager, even if only for a short time and he genuinely seemed to like the place.

And he gives us the "I'm an Evertonian" quote when Real beat Liverpool in the champions league

Still can't get my head around him playing that song to his team in training before a game at anfield. Some of his team talks in that amazon documentary were absolutely bizarre but that was just bewildering.

He's clearly doing something right though and I love watching them play. That Odegaard is some player.

:oops: :oops: :blush: :blush: :(:eek::hayee:

It has took him a while to get Arsenal where they are, but Arsenal are a different kettle of fish to us. I am sure under Arteta we would have been down in his early days but had we survived then no more than mid-table. Think it is all dependant on what you start with......Arteta has decent players we had the dregs

Cast your mind back a few seasons and post Marco Silva we were rumoured to be in for Arteta (albeit how crediblethe rumours were is another matter). Instead we appointed Carlo Ancelotti.

Arteta had his struggles at Arsenal initially and Ancelotti had us dreaming of Europe for roughly 2/3 of his one and only season.

At time we possibly felt we'd got the better deal and the Guardian published a nice piece looking at the respective gambles both clubs took.

Fair to say Arsenal won the war, so to speak, with their gamble paying off. But in a parallel universe where we appointed Arteta I wonder if he'd have turned us around.

Would his tactical acumen and man management have won through? Would he have been hobbled by our board? Just two of many questions.

Curious to know others views. Thoughts?
We were in relegation worries when silva was sacked and Carlo took over. The boost around the club hiring someone of Carlo’s stature got us safe and well clear.

Arteta would have needed time which we didn’t have. (Same as Howe). I said at the time that they both would likely be top managers but both were too risky for the position we were in. I think he would have been good in the long run but wouldn’t have lasted long enough for us to reap the rewards.

Never knew we were linked with him 6 or 7 years ago.
We were linked with allsorts of rubbish and iirc, the front runners were Benitez & Moyes.
Then Ancelotti was sacked at Napoli, Moshiri and/or Usmanov quickly threw money at him.
I think Arteta was always top of Arsenals list.
