Parallel Everton 1: What if we'd have appointed Arteta?

Carlo was a bad fit, as you say the job here wasn't something he had on his CV, fine tuning a top 2 side is one thing, dealing with our mess is another skill altogether.
Sam Allardyce was perfect for that but we stupidly sacked him.
Carlo did a better job of saving us from relegation than Allardyce did.

We were closer to the relegation zone with less games left to play when Carlo took us over and he got us to more points than Allardyce did.

His full season only went wrong due to a massive injury list.

Guys please show examples of where beloved fellow posters demonised a young manager that’s got his eventual team going for the Premier League title while Everton are dicing with relegation.
I was bored and searched "Arteta" in posts before July 2021, here's one for you:

@Zatara knew and had an audacious plan. And most laughed.

Appoint Zat Director of Football NOW.

I stand by my 2021 opinion.

Is this the alternate reality where I win the lottery and live in the south of France with no more worries than which wine I want to have with my lunch?

If it is, I'm in.

Indeed, but rest assured Davek would still be calling Arteta a helmet headed Judas and claiming we should forget DCL despite him being an ever present and having scored 32 league goals.

I recommend the Bordeaux btw.

What? Sam got us to 8th? Carlo got us as 10th and a 12th place? He did a much worse job

Besides his full season only went wrong when he phoned up Madrid in January and decided to leave us

Much worse? He started in a lower position, closer to the relegation zone, with less games to play with us having a worse points per game ratio than when Allardyce took over.

They got the same points that first season despite all that. And 59 points the following season would have got Europe in all but like 2 of the previous 20 seasons or something ridiculous.

Also, I’m pretty sure the phone call from Madrid was March time and the injury crisis and having to play 4 CBs etc started in January.

EDIt, actually yeah you are right about the time of the call it seems
But yeah much worse, when you come 10th and 12th you have done a worse job then someone who came 8th even though he knew he wasnt wanted, at least Sam actually wanted to be at Everton and would of stayed had we been forward thinking enough to allow it

Cast your mind back a few seasons and post Marco Silva we were rumoured to be in for Arteta (albeit how crediblethe rumours were is another matter). Instead we appointed Carlo Ancelotti.

Arteta had his struggles at Arsenal initially and Ancelotti had us dreaming of Europe for roughly 2/3 of his one and only season.

At time we possibly felt we'd got the better deal and the Guardian published a nice piece looking at the respective gambles both clubs took.

Fair to say Arsenal won the war, so to speak, with their gamble paying off. But in a parallel universe where we appointed Arteta I wonder if he'd have turned us around.

Would his tactical acumen and man management have won through? Would he have been hobbled by our board? Just two of many questions.

Curious to know others views. Thoughts?

Arteta considers himself an Arsenal ex player

Has no interest whatsoever in/for Everton

He wanted a pay off. Don’t pretend otherwise.

If he wanted to stay, he wouldn’t have taken digs at the fans from pretty much day 1 (he would have tried to endear himself) and would have actually tried to play some football once we were safe.

The fans deserved digs , these socks being the best example, he must of known what some were thinking, anyway Moshiri deserved too lose a few million to him for his stupidity
