Phil Jagielka

Still for me a really good CB we'd struggle to replace without shelling out a load. Some of his good performances have been unfone by calamity Tim. Still remember how good he was in Moyes' last derby.
Been impressed how well he has taken to playing as the left CB, I know in theory it is the same position but quite a few players can't make the switch as they favour one foot too much.

Isn't it weird how many time he's come out and said something similar.

"RIGHT LADS WE WERE UTTER SHYTE AGAINST -

Kyiv away
Stoke away
Newcastle away
Hull away
Southampton away
Stoke home
West Brom home
Chelsea home
Leicester home
Arsenal away
Swansea away
Crystal Palace home
Hull home

but I swear the next game will be the one where we turn the corner.

He's taken over from Phil Neville admirably in this regard.

Partnered with Stones, he usually does alright

Partnered with anyone else, he's been very questionable

It's clear now that he needs a younger side kick to assist him

Kind of like in The Dark Knight Returns, where Batman recruits that lass with glasses to be the new Robin

Basically, Frank Miller should be our defensive coach

I'm not convinced he is the captain we need to turn our situation around. He has always lacked a bit of self belief and I don't think his World Cup performance did him any favours in that regard. I wonder whether free'd from responsibility he might pick his own game back up - then again being relieved of duties probably isn't going to do his confidence many favours. Either way I think the team would benefit from a change of leadership on the pitch.

I'd go with McCarthy as a replacement - he believes in himself, he gets us going when on song and he stands up for his team mates against snide opponents and dodgy referees. As nice a bloke as jagielka seems to be I think he's just too passive.

Are you sure. I have read that some where before.

its pretty obvious that the conclusion to draw is that jags is bang average, and stones is class

If it wasn't so monotonously depressing it would be funny
There must be a Big Book of Anodyne Football Cliches, well thumbed, pressed in to usage before and after every match :

What??? Haha...

I know we all love stones but jags has been equally as good as stones. Severely hampered by the clowns tactics or having to play next to pub footballer like alcaraz, he's still managed to come out of this season in credit imo.

I think Jags has been alright. just got partnered up with some man-shaped cheeses this season. Stones and Jags with someone who is not Gareth Barry in front of them, and someone who isn't Tim Howard behind them, could be a strong partnership.
