Jags = Great last ditch tackler/blocker/proper defender

Jags does not = A ball playing defender/Beckenbauer

However his form for the first half of the season was tripe, really really bad, no excuses.

One of my favourite players of the last 10 years at Everton but it has got to be said he was at fault for possibly all three at Villa, he isnt aggressive enough for me, even as a captain he is easily defeated, i want a captain who leads from the front, i know we all think we have class as a club but we need to get in the oppositions face, we need to pressurise the referee, jags doesnt do that, he seems to be well below his usual high standards. Hopefully he will come back next season in better form and a partnership that works with stones.

Could do with being phased out now, assuming Martinez is capable of finding a long-term partner for Stones.

I imagine he'll be another who stays in the team about five years too long, though.

Playing as good as any central defender in the league at the moment, bar John Terry.

Yes - absolutely, phase him out

Dont you dare come on here with your sarcasm.

This is a forum that prides itself on intelligence, I.T.K.'s and sensibility.

Your in the wrong place MK !

No doubting Jags is a good defender but there are times we he just looks defeated, my personal favourite would be Fabien Schar from Basel with Stones and have Jags rotating, same with Besic and Barry, we forget Jags is about 32 and plays virtually every minute of every game.

John Terry has played every minute of every game league game for the champions at 34. Jags is showing no signs of slowing up or fading out and has been back to his magnificent best since Christmas after a difficult start to the league that they all suffered from.

He's got a good 2 years left at the top at least, we do need cover but him an Stones are our main centrebacks and will be for sometime yet.

Talking about replacing Jagielka who has been one of our more consistent and best performers is lunacy.
Yes, we need to bring in a young centrehalf that will be ready to replace Jagielka in about three years time.
We need a creative midfielder, a winger and a striker to help Lukaku far more than we need another centrehalf.
Hopefully Browning will fill that gap in time.
