There is that Matt, but Stones will be a regular and with Jags staying in there, my point was how can we expect to bring in another good youngish CB that folk are calling for who perhaps could see not much game time to be had here.
Do we want a 'youngish' CB? I thought Galloway was tipped for the future by most.

We want someone that's cheap, fairly effective, older, and willing to be 3rd choice.

Think you're right on that last bit, most credible CB link has been Klavan from the bundesliga. He's either 29 or 30 and wants to play in the prem

Nice one. It was good to see him getting his proper form back in the 2nd half of last season after a shaky 1st half, so well deserved. And we are not overly blessed with central defenders at the moment having just released 2 of them so this is perfectly understandable.

I hope it is also a recognition by RM that the principal job of a defender is just to defend, which is what Jags excels at. Not that he doesn't chip in with a few goals either like including the odd screamer at the Pit.

Tell you what, im happy with this on a couple of fronts:

1) Hes Boss

3 Hes a leader

2) We really look after our players, Ossie, Hibbret now Jags - we recoginise there service and look after them in thier careers - if i was a young player i would look at that in terms of where to sing. There is something in being an Evertonian that is more then just raw financial cold bloodedness and i am really proud of the club. Look at what Norway did with their "Legend" Stevie Me - they stabbed him in the back, told him he would be bench fodder and offered him reduced terms, basically kicked him out the door. Despite the media drival around it, the kicked him out the door. We should be proud of our loyalty to players who have served us well.

No issue with this. Other than Osman and Hibbert do we have any players that have been here longer than him? We need long serving players like him, who's clearly very popular amongst the players, to help bed in youngsters coming through and new players coming in.

Jags has more than earned the right to stay here until he retires. He has been one of my favourite players in the Premier era. He was a collosus in the run to FA Cup final in 09, we may have won had he and Arteta, and indeed Yak not suffered season ending injuries.
He speaks highly of Everton and has raised our standing in the national team. He has also never flirted with the idea of leaving when top 4 sides came enquiring.
