Phil Jagielka

The national team is suffering from a lack of bone-fide top class centre halves. It's why Jags has been called up again. Quite alarming that someone with his level of distribution can get into the national side in England and a relativeY top team in the Premiership.
Yesterday's showing was nothing new - unfortunately Phil has been on the wane for a good couple of seasons.

Personally I think the same can be said about Baines and Mirallas form the better group of players.

True this, Koeman really needs to start looking at what players are available in January to cover these three spot, but we need long term buys not just stop gaps.

Jagielka's performance was laughable.

It was like he was running through treacle.

How can a professional athlete be so unfit and out of condition ?

I think it's more a combination of accumulative injuries and father time carching up. He's still capable of putting in a top performance but not consistently. As someone has posted earlier in the thread, I hope his career doesn't nose dive in an unsavoury fashion, he's been a top servant for Everton.

Surely now is the time we (and others) have decided where we need to strengthen in Jan and have targets

With that in mind we should call.Moyes NOW and sell Jags to Sunderland.

Whilst all players eventually run out of steam, it still saddens me to witness the vitriol poured on players who have been good players and servants of the club. More so when elsewhere people are falling over themselves to extol the virtues of a clapped out forward who actually betrayed the club. Sad.
100% it's disgusting and becoming all to common.

You are completely right.

Of course, that's from a playing pov. He's also the captain, though, and although Koeman dropped him for a game it's a big deal to make the decision to demote him. There's a lot of dressing room politics involved and I'm not sure Koeman would want that tumult this early. He's cultivated the assent of the old guard like Barry, Baines and Jagielka. Personally I think he'll duck it and we'll be stuck with him.
Talking about players with legs gone, Ashley Williams is shot to pieces, championship player at best

Called up for England, must only be young Ross who is judged on form, a few in that squad Jags included are not playing well.

barkley dropped for lack of form, but there are players in that squad, wilshere, lingaard, drinkwater, townsend, sturridge and vardy who are all either not being played (rashford isn't figuring too much lately either i don't think) or have done nothing of note all season. I do wonder why barkley is being used a scapegoat tbh.

He's 34 and unfortunately injuries and niggles seem to have taken their toll and he's now lost that little half-a-yard of pace.

It happens.

He was also up against the form attack in the league.

His performance was poor, as was that of every player on the pitch near-enough (for us). But it's got very little to do with his conditioning - one thing that can't be held against Jags is his commitment, work-ethic and attitude.
