Another example of him not getting us came on 5 Live the other week - he said something along the lines of Everton fans don't really go for a passing game, they prefer a more "in your face" approach. Even the presenter told him that wasn't true, and clearly she wasn't our captain for nearly a decade.

I dont believe he was a good captain either for pushing fowards, imagine how he welcomed players to the club - "as long as you run around and put the effort in, and we finish 7th, its all good - thats all the fans expect".

So glad he's gone from our club. Utter pleb.
 
He struck me as a bit too stupid to see Moyes for what he was. Bought right into it and believed every word rusty said.
 
Was always a limited player and everyone knew that, but worked hard and was thoroughly professional . Thought he was a great captain for a few years. Made my piss boil when he made comments about being desperate to join Spurs, top 10 being a fantastic achievement etc. and now think he's one of the worst captains in Everton history. Snide.
 

Like him. Good captain for us. Positive influence on the dressing room and was a decent player for the first couple of years.
 
His sound bites used to piss me off as well.

"We'll put this right next week" - nope, you can't put losing to Liverpool in an FA Cup semi final right by winning a meaningless league game.
 
Was a very good defensive central midfielder for a couple of years, far better than that absolute joke called Fellaini that half of you were creaming over for years. His small time comments towards the end of his career seriously pished me off, but I hear a lot of very similar stuff from other Evertonians and the media, to be honest.

Care to break out the stats on that most ridiculous of statements, anyone thinking neville was better cm for us than felli needs to give the footy a swerve,because it clearly isnt your thing

Thinking maybe he's already swerved football for the last 5 or 6 years if he's come to that conclusion.

Straight back at you mate, anyone who thinks Fellaini is a good defensive central midfielder doesn't have a clue about football. His ability to read play was crap and he couldn't track a runner to save his life. That's why the likes of Tom Cleverly were picked ahead of him at Man United, and it's why Fellaini will eventually be sold to the likes of Newcastle or West Ham for about 15 million, where he will be stuck upfront, as that is where he is effective.

I've had this discussion too many times to remember mate, those who know what they are talking about will back up what I say, those who are blinded by his boss perm will continue to describe him as the white Patrick Viera, despite the fact that he can't get a game for love nor money at Man United.

Before Neville was finished, he was good at protecting his/our defence. Unfortunately there are no statistics that relate to reading the game or tracking runners, which is a shame as it is one of the most fundamental parts of midfield play, far more important than the number of touches a player has during a game, or how much ground a player covers during a game.

He doesnt have to patrick viera to be bettet than neville, and there are plenty of stats to suggest what an effective dm is, such as ball retention which is important in that position, intrceptions, which fellaini topped the entire league for from dm, tackles won, airial duel, team goals conceded, granted you have to still have an eye for the unseen work, but neville better than felli, thats right up there with some of the most outlandish stuff i've on here, and this is GOT, so the competition is very stiff
