Phil Neville - your thoughts now?

It isn't remotely embarrassing. Neville actually got a game for United in probably their strongest ever squad, Fellaini can't get a game in their weakest squad for over 20 years.

Fellaini will be sacked off by United (without having made any impact at all) to a third rate club that will deploy him as a forward, vault me.

Fellaini played yesterday, while recovering from an injury.

You obviously never saw Fellaini against City (twice) - he controlled the game like no Everton player I have seen in 10-20 years.

He was a bit part player for utd, got a game when others were out, was never an important player for them and clings to the class of 92 thing by being garys brother, because he was a top arse licker he stuck around happy to be a part timer collecting medals he barely earned, hes won more than arteta and cahill, hes not a better everton player. But your either clinically insane or on a wind up so crack on

Fellaini is a bit part player at United, the only difference being that Neville was playing a part in United's greatest ever squad, whilst Fellaini is a bit part player in their worst squad for over 20 years. You think Cahill was a better defensive midfielder than Neville? Because that is what we are discussing here, not who was the best at getting 12 goals a season. I'd pick Arteta over both Neville and Fellaini, because at his best he is the complete midfielder, absolute streets ahead of Fellaini.

You say I'm insane, or on a wind-up, but you know full well that the United fans would agree with me. As I said, vault me when United get rid of him because he is nowhere near good enough for them. He will end up at a third rate club who deploy him as a forward.

Yeah, he got given 10 minutes at the end. He had his good performances, nobody is denying that, but he just isn't very good from a defensive perspective. You are referring to a few one-off performances, one of which was against a City side that wasn't even that good. It's his lack of ability from a defensive perspective that I am commenting on, and you can scoff all you want, but I'm not alone in thinking the likes of a young Phil Neville provided better protection for the defence than the like of Fellaini.

Anyway I've said what I need to say. Let the vaults be the judge.

Phil Neville's career absolutely annihilates that of Fellaini's, and I imagine it always will do.

Doesn't mean he was a better player at Everton.

Phil Neville's career probably annihilates the hell out of plenty of superior players.

Was a very good defensive central midfielder for a couple of years, far better than that absolute joke called Fellaini that half of you were creaming over for years. His small time comments towards the end of his career seriously pished me off, but I hear a lot of very similar stuff from other Evertonians and the media, to be honest.

Fellaini ain't a central midfielder

he epitomises Moyes football. ugly brutal, but efficient. Gets in your face, gets goals. Dirty as sin.

Still can't believe he was bought as a destroyer in central midfield next to Carrick, remember watching him against Bayern running diagonally like a bloody bishop

LOL @Dymak

He's had a shocker here.

If this is the first time you have come across this discussion, then you can't have been on here very long. I'm not alone in my opinions, far from it, as I said, go on a United forum, have the same discussion and then come back to me as to who is having a shocker. Anyone who thinks Fellaini is a good defensive midfielder doesn't know what they are talking about. He is a bit part player, in the worst United squad in living memory.

I am not one bit arsed what a bunch of whoppers on red cafe say, I'll judge Felli from his time at Everton. He was great for us. In 2012 his stats as a DM were among the best in the league.

Basically you couldn't be more wrong.

Don't agree.... Limited player with a fantastic attitude who reached the pinnacle of the game through pure hard work and total dedication.... A positive ethos he brought to Everton with him which kicked the arse of the existing regime.... Not my fav player ever but will always have my respect as e never gave less than 100%... Even if that 100% wasn't top class

Accurate

Oh right, they're the whoppers but you are entirely correct. How convenient for you. I dare say that they think you are a whopper, as you consider a little table that bears absolutely no relevance to a player's ability to read the game, track runners, and protect his defence as being unequivocal proof of a player's defensive midfield proficiency.

If you go by your little table, you would be forgiven for thinking Fellaini is a better midfielder than Gareth Barry lol . Which is of course why Barry was considered an overwhelming success at Manchester City, but Fellaini can't get a game for the worst Man United side in living memory.

Have you got any more little tables? Perhaps one which documents how many touches a player has over a season? Because if there was ever an indicator of midfield proficiency, it is clearly the amount of touches of the ball that a player has during the game, or perhaps the amount of ground that a player covers, that's another unequivocal indicator of defensive midfield proficiency.

This constant udnerrating of united is bizzare. how is it their worst team in 20 years ffs. This was their side that beat arsenal 8-2.
De Gea Smalling Jones Evans Evra Nani Cleverley Anderson Young Rooney Welbeck

This was their strongest side last year - De Gea, Rafael, Ferdinand Vidic, Evra Valencia Cleverley, Carrick, Januzaj Rooney Van Persie.

Their strongest side now is arguably De gea, rafael, Jones, Rojo, Shaw, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria, Rooney, Rvp, Falcao. [Poor language removed] hell worst side in 20 years? multiple world class players and very good players there. If they get a defender of similar quality to their front line they'll be laughing. Worst is 20 years is just typical media bs. They have 3rd most talented side in prem.
