Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

If it's under 20m it's an absolute steal tbh that is nothing in today's market, 24 years old, Already captain. We don't need superstars lads we need people who will get dirty when it gets tough and he looks like a ball winner which we need.
Him alone simply won't be enough though we'll need another CM but under 20m and potentially a player departing? I'm all in.
Could not agree more with this mate.

We've got enough ex-Barcelona's etc in our squad. We need genuine grit. From the stats posted earlier by @GrandOldTeam he seems to be able to provide exactly that.

Another CM and the return of the real Gomes and the team looks instantly better.

I like him, he definitely has his strengths - particularly in winning possession back. Very switched on defensively while comfortable (yet unspectacular) on the the ball.

I’d like to see him as the holding player in a 3 rather than in a midfield 2 though.

Have you noticed Hojbjerg catcher?

Ive always seen him as a bit of a Carsley type underrated player and nothing fancy. But havent seen enough of him or paid much attention.

I'll be honest not a great deal. When he first went to Southampton I thought he was a very odd shape for a football (ergo he was overweight). I always felt he was a good passer though and could have been a number 10.

He seems to have lost weight, is more muscly now and by the numbers you see he wins the ball back very well. In truth he's probably a better than Carsley was. He looks powerful, gets his foot in well and can pass.

I'm on the fence a bit with the signing, but there's no doubt to me he's miles better than any of our midfielders currently.

Southampton fans are moaning about how he always gives away possession due to poor concentration though

Wouldn't pay much attention to them now. He's made it clear he wants to leave them for a few months now and they've taken it bad - they were raving about him not so long ago. He's their captain and on Mourinho and Ancelotti's radar - that should say enough about his skillset.

If you read the thread posted a page or two back they've been saying this since 2018 and there isn't much raving about him either.

I am seeing him as a bit of a Gilberto Silva / Carsley who (in a 2) would be more of a defensive minded player alongside a box to box player.

Yes, that means no Gomes. I think if we do sign Allan then on paper that seems like a robust centre to me.

He looks like a stocky bloke...bit like Gravesen/Carsley to me...

I think we 'need' 4 new centre mids. That could take 2 summer windows to evolve and for £14-18mil if he ends up like a Carsley (solid player and gives the ball to our boys simply) then he'll be a good option.

I reckon Jonjoe Kenny. Spurs could play hardball if they don't sell Hojbjerg to them on Walker-Peters so could see Southampton replacing him with Kenny. £14m + Kenny is a good deal for me.

I wonder what the overall fee would be valued at.

Lets say its £14mil + Kenny £6mil to make £20mil then that seems 'ok' on paper.

but with FFP we may do a deal with Southampton where Kenny is rated at say £12mil and Hojbjerg £26mil.

It would give us £12mil×5 = £60mil to play with on paper - £5.2mil for Hojbjerg.

Clever way to manipulate FFP.

This is why im thinking (on a positive) that he could be a bit of a carsley. Massively underrated then suddenly clicked for us .

Yeah that would be a good 2 to have, but I just don’t think we stand much of a chance of getting Allan for £25-35 mil and think that we’d have to be overpaying to make them budge.

The performances since we got tonked by Chelsea away have just made me doubt the system so much - we have so few players that it actually suits and I’m not sure we’re in a position to do a massive rebuild.

It really doesn’t help having, what are most likely, our first 3 choice centre mids missing for so much of the season; Gbamin’s not gonna be fit for a few more months still, nobody knows what’s happening with or even where Delph is and Gomes is next to useless without someone that can cover his shortcomings next to him.

Think it will be the same as the Siggy saga. Swansea played hard ball and we ended up paying £45 million for him. Great valve though!

Nah, we were even more desperate then than we are now. We had some weird need for a ‘statement signing’ then, and ended up paying 50 million for Siggy. This will be a much more low key signing should it happen.

I think we are making an early move so that the move does not become a protracted saga like with Siggy. Southampton and Hojbjerg will be told what’s available, there will be minimum negotiation, and if it’s not happening then we will move on.

I’d be very pleased but surprised if the deal involved Kenny. His value is minimal, it’s still questionable whether he’s even prem quality imo.

Difficult to be excited about a player it seems most Southampton fans don’t think is good enough to play for them. But if it’s true Mourinho wants him too he can’t be that bad. No idea how many times I’ve seen him play but he’s passed me by without notice.

I've got a hunch that the player they want is Walcott. They've only got Redmond as a true wide player I think (happy to be corrected).

+ Homecoming etc etc

Their system relies on pace and the break an awful lot. I wouldn't rule out Kenny, or Dowel, maybe even Besic. id throw in Bolaise for the lols.
