Oh god another everton transfer to wind up the fans with. 1. It's been made clear spurs are his no1 choice 2. I wonder if we have made it public of our interest to keep carlo and fans appeased for now. 3. He wants to play in Europe 4. I think we all know how this ends.

Now I'm all for getting in players early 100% but I really hope that when he realises spurs will play with the price and he holds out despite us agreeing to terms and price etcc then we leave it be and move onto other targets. I couldn't cope with a other drawn out saga only to leave it to late and end up with another iwobi type signing.

If it's under 20m it's an absolute steal tbh that is nothing in today's market, 24 years old, Already captain. We don't need superstars lads we need people who will get dirty when it gets tough and he looks like a ball winner which we need.
Him alone simply won't be enough though we'll need another CM but under 20m and potentially a player departing? I'm all in.
We need both really. I think he'd be a decent enough signing at the prices quoted. We need more quality too though, just signing a competent midfielder isn't going to solve our problems. Said when we were first linked him, I think he's pretty good, but he does seem like yet another 'obvious' signing. I remember when we all thought Brands was going to completely revolutionize our recruitment, but we're still shopping in the same market really.

If Hojbjerg has come out and said "I only want to sign for Spurs" then genuinely, i've not seen it. Do you have a link to something?

Far more likely is that we've been encouraged to bid by his agent.

Whatever the rules are regarding direct club to player contact, intermediaries provide 3 or 4 degrees of separation to allow clubs to find out whether a player is interested in the move.

We've been given the go ahead to bid. That's not to say that the player doesn't have a preference but were he not interested in us in the slightest, we'd have been told by now.

And with respect to our glorious club that we all love, if we think that we are everyone's first choice whilst bids are awaited, we're a bit mad. We might be the best option on the table by the end of it all but to say Digne would have chosen us over Manchester City or Spurs or Man United had they bid is bonkers.

We are what we are.

I guess there’s no point bidding for any more players ever again then as they’ll all want to go elsewhere.

People on here seem to believe that we will be able to move some player we don't want to Southampton, the reality will be that it will be a player we won't want to lose or can afford to lose.
I could see them wanting Michael Keane or somebody who plays most weeks for us and I don't believe CA would agree to that.

Wouldn't pay much attention to them now. He's made it clear he wants to leave them for a few months now and they've taken it bad - they were raving about him not so long ago. He's their captain and on Mourinho and Ancelotti's radar - that should say enough about his skillset.
I always remember back to when we signed Yakubu , the fans couldn't wait to get rid of him.

Wherever Hojberg goes it is obvious that he is rated by some of the best managers around. Club captain at 24 would show the manager rates him , he learned his trade at Bayern and certainly seems to have ambition.

I would look at our neighbours and Jordan Henderson who I think is their most influential player. It took several years for him to really establish himself and be appreciated for what he brings to the team.
This is the kind of player Hojberg is and will be an asset to whichever club he joins.

I've just read through a 12 page post on a Southampton forum, regarding Hojberg, and it wasn't very inspiring. From late 2018, theyve been hoping someone is stupid enough to buy him. They really can't believe the hype surrounding him? In fairness, they're saying he's got a great engine, rarely injured, very passionate and a high level of interceptions.... But, his passing is terrible. Gives it away constantly, poor composure, has one good game in five. They won't miss him much at all and will be easily replaced. They have said Schneiderlin is a much better player too ffs. Making me hope Tottenham win this one

Oh and they seem to think it could be JJK could be part of the player swap deal as they're desperate for a right back

Sounds like Gueye.

Hoping it won't be another Schneiderlin/Sigurdsson type deal, big enough fee, big increase in wages and get a year of effort (6 months in MS case) before downing tools.

Tough one though, bit underwhelming signing players from worse PL teams but also sick of buying rejects from huge clubs!

And this only started to happen when he had proper players ahead of him and behind him. I think it will be much the same with Hojbjerg - a decent signing (at the right price) but he's someone who is going to represent the foundation for others to score and assist, rather than contribute too much of that himself. We'll still need another CM and a right winger who can contribute goals (IMO).

They could take Keane all day long, easily replaceable. only a straight swap though
