Yesterday's round up.

Lewis Warrington stuck on the bench as Plymouth lost 2-1 at Birmingham. Plymouth are 16th.

As highlighted above, Stanley Mills came on after 65 minutes with Oxford drawing 1-1 at home to Charlton and helped create their late winner. 2-1 and Oxford are top.

Reece Welch was given 90 minutes in Forest Green's 1-1 draw v Wimbledon. They are 20th.

A stoppage time defeat (2-1) for Harry Tyrer's Chesterfield at Altrincham. He played the whole match. Chesterfield drop to 4th.

Farsley drew 2-2 at home to Tamworth. Zan-Luk Leban continues to hold down his place in goal. They are 5th.

Thanks for the update mate and please do keep posting. I was a bit disappointed he didn't start yesterday but good to hear he came on and had a part to play in the goal.

We are apparently after another forward/winger type before the end of the window, but then we've also lost a starting winger (Browne) to injury (again). Even so, I expect Mills will get a good amount of minutes even if he's not necessarily starting each week. I don't think that's a bad thing though, it'll probably actually be beneficial in the long run as he'll be properly managed, rather than flogged for 90 minutes week in, week out. I'm pretty sure a few clubs were in for Mills on loan, but part of the sell from Manning was a detailed training plan that showed how they'd thought out his workload, gym work, recovery etc, so I expect he'll be well looked after.

I thought McAleny had something about him. Don’t think the loan system benefitted him. Was at a different club every season.

McAleny was absolutely class for us. I think we wanted him on a permanent from you but he chose to take the money on offer at Fleetwood instead. Now taking the money at Salford. From what I saw of him, he could've easily made it to the Championship but once his head got turned for a bit more money then that was that. A stark contrast to someone like Lundstram, for example, who dropped well below his level to come to us in League 2 but then worked his way all the way back to the Premier League before going off to Rangers.

…thanks for posting. You say Mills ‘seems like a good athlete’. You might not be aware, but his brother is one of Englands top milers. Definitely some good genes when it comes to running.

Ah yeah I remember reading that when he came on loan to us. He definitely has one of those natural running gaits and it does look effortless. Not short on pace either.

…yep, he’s what I call an uncomplicated footballer in that he looks to get beyond his marker and deliver. I actually wondered if Everton might try and convert him to Full Back like his Dad.

I think he may have already played wing back in your youth teams, is that right? Certainly seems to have the physical attributes for it.

Agree entirely on the 'uncomplicated' bit. Seems to know what he's good at and sticks to it.

…yep they toyed with pushing him back. I recall he may have even played a couple of games as a conventional full back. I’m not alone in liking his quality and application, he won’t be found wanting for attitude.

Lewis Warrington started for Plymouth tonight v Palace in the League Cup and helped them into a 2-0 lead. Palace came back and took the lead with 3 goals in 4 minutes. Lewis was subbed off on 80 minutes as Plymouth chased the game but Palace scored again. Final score 2-4.

Hopefully a sharp learning curve to Lewis that Premier League quality means Premier League quality. The 1st half was plain sailing for him.

Disastrous debut for Mason Holgate for Southampton. Hooked on 64 minutes with his team 4-0 down at Sunderland. Finished 5-0. Saints are 7th.

No action again for Lewis Warrington for Plymouth who won 3-0 at home to Blackburn bit worrying the lack of game time. Plymouth 10th.

Heartbreak for Stanley Mills's Oxford at home to Port Vale. Mills came off the bench on 79 minutes with his side losing 1-0 and a man down after a sending off. He provided an assist in stoppage time to draw his side level but Oxford then gave away a pen, had another man sent off and lost 2-1. Oxford drop to 6th.

Good day for Reece Welch whose Forest Green won 1-0 at Sutton. He played the full match. Forest Green are 18th.

90 minutes for Harry Tyrer whose Chesterfield won 4-3 away to Aldershot. Chesterfield are 2nd.

Clean sheet for Zan-Luk Leban for Farsley in their scoreless draw at home to King's Lynn. 11th.

Mills came on 10 minutes too late today for my liking. Despite the fact we were down to 10 men (what do you mean you can't elbow an opponent in the chest?) Port Vale were tiring and we needed someone to run at them.

He had their left back on toast when he came on. Must have beaten him 3 or 4 times in the short time he was on and it was still 10 v 11, and supplied a nice cut back for our equaliser. Once we were down to 9 that was it as far as any attacking contribution went.

Cheers for the updates. Seems like you were trying to hold on for the draw so didn't bring him on until you went one down and had to chase the game. Probably a mistake as a player with his energy can provide a good escape route to relieve pressure. Hopefully he will start to get more minutes now.

By the way, why did your goalscorer get the 2nd yellow?

Ah no, I think Manning (our manager) should have got Mills on sooner, but he wasn't trying to see it out at 0-0. Once we got him on, the game changed and once Leigh equalised our tails were up and I think we got carried away. Leigh got a second yellow for diving it to win the ball but he got the man. Think it was desperation to get the ball back so we could get back on the attack. It was a clear yellow, unfortunately (even though his first wasn't) and then that was that from there.

I think Mills will be getting a start sooner or later. What we did well today was control the game for large periods, we've got a team that are pretty good at retaining possession but not many who can get behind. Mills does that, as does Edwards. Edwards only signed on loan yesterday and Mills has already produced, so I expect he's in the driving seat.
