Sound and if Lukaku gets injured, who do we play then? Or Ross Barks?, sure some players we can replace, but some we just cant, no matter how good the squad is.

Wimp.

Lukaku's a big lad, he only needs make his prescence felt first few minutes and they won't wanna know, the sh1thouses that they are

Last time we had almost the exact same situation and rested players in the derby for the upcomign cup game we got hammered then went and played crap and look knackered anyway in the cup game against Sunderland and ended up going to a replay anyway, the rs played a full strenght team in the derby despite having their own cup game smashed us then went on to beat stoke pretty comfortably. So exactly how did we benefit compared to them by resting?

Think its a fallacy that resting players works out well, look at Bayern tonight 2-2 first leg rested a lot of players before the second leg and now getting thumped at home and going out the CL

Harry Catterick in 1966 got fined for playing a reserve side at Leeds seem to remember us winning the cup that year!

Moyes rested half the team and got slaughtered by us lot when we could only scrape a draw at home against Sunderland mate, managed to blow a ten game unbeaten streak in that Derby as well

What's that got to resting player which is allowed now its a Derby we hardly win there we have a good squad of players to rotate key players for the Derby - in the 1960's we went with a mismatched squad and won 4-0 - if 4th spot was gettable then it may be different - it would be a commonsense approach by RM to try squad players, and rest top players!

He rested to play Sunderland, massive differance between that and a game at Wembley, which if we win, we then play one of the two worse sides left in the cup final to win it. Moyes got slaughtered because it was Moyes, win lose or draw on the Thursday after the Derby we will only be thinking of Wembley regardless of what happens at Anfield.

At the minute I'd naturally say go full strength, but a lot could happen between now and then. Also depends on if we are on sat 12.45 too.

Lukaku is the concern tho. We can't afford him to be out. In any case no more than 2/3 changes max

Play Oviedo instead of Baines. Play Stones at CB. Play Besic. Play Del. Play Niasse.

Robles
Oviedo Stones Jagielka Coleman
Besic McCarthy
Mirallas Barkley Del
Niasse

Then at Wembley

Robles
Baines Mori Jagielka Coleman
Barry McCarthy
Cleverley Barkley Lennon
Lukaku

That's four players, five if you count Robles, playing both games- Jagielka, Coleman, McCarthy, Barkley.

And then they pulled two back, sent it to extra time, and added on two more to cruise past Juve.

With almost everybody healthy, we can rotate some players. Hopefully we'll get out ahead early in the derby and hold on so we can throw on some subs to close out the game.

Pffffft Bayern would have won 2-0 if they hadn't rested so many players mid week, took them ages to warm themselves up

Least that's the story i am sticking too

Point stands though, everyone is thinking we rest players because the semi is way more important than the Derby - but resting doesn't gaurantee anything, different players and teams react differently to being rested or needing to be rested, we rest players lose the Derby big then lose the cup i can guarantee that most saying we should rest players will absolutely crucify Martinez afterwards - which is a joke but will happen.

Plus your gonna rest players like Lukaku and Barkley, one whom this game means a hell of a lot too with him being a blue and the other whose going for the league top scorer, dunno exatly if thats the best motivation for them both pre semi final to get them annoyed at being dropped.

Rest some of the older players like Barry fair enough, but calling for the likes of Naisse, Osman, Pienaar and Gibson to start for us is pure daft

Got a decent squad that can be rotated in a smart way. Lukaku would be useful in this game coming from the bench for the last 30. Barry and McCarthy can be rested as can Ross.

For the United, Watford and Southampton games we can rotate
