Possible Director of Football

Wonder if there is any chance this could be announced tomorrow at the press conference?

We'd have heard more concrete news from the usual sources if that was the case mate. Someone like Monchi joining Everton would be huge news and would be hard to keep quiet.

That's what it reminded me of too, lot to be said for those who have turbulent or difficult home lives (whether short or long term) but still put a shift in so that nobody would ever know. You'd like to think they're calling Samaritans for support though, not healthy to keep it to themselves.

On the DoF, if they're to be in charge of transfers, will we be telling Koeman to hold off until the new DoF comes in? Seems odd to let him make new signings if that'd effectively be the new guys job.
People who come from rough backgrounds often come out stronger the other side. My ex girlfriend endured hell at home. Her mum is a manic depressant and was constantly in and out of hospital, and her dad was quite distant as he was not exactly a people person. She'd basically have to look after her 3 sisters by herself at times, even in her early teens.

She's a doctor now. This feels weird to say but even though things didn't work out between us I'm really happy for her. Even proud in a way.

without sounding stupid, how does DOF differ much from a scout? Is it just because they go a bit further than identifying players and reporting back about them? Basically they do that as well as financial aspects of deals?

Always wondered whether they just go off on their own and identify players and whether they look for specific players with specific attributes based on the manager's wishes. Arsenal don't have one and that's maybe why they've been stockpiled with attacking mids when nearly every other position needs addressing.

The Echo say not Monchi - http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/everton-boss-ronald-koeman-says-11489497

New Everton boss Ronald Koeman believes it is important the club appoints a sporting director.

But the Blues’ hopes of appointing Sevilla’s transfer guru Monchi appear to have all but ended.

Koeman has worked under a sporting director - also known as a director of football or technical director - throughout his managerial career and is comfortable working inside that management structure.

Everton had launched an ambitious plan to lure Monchi from Europa League winners Sevilla and were willing to pay whatever it took to land his signature.

But the Blues now fear he will only leave for Paris Saint Germain where former Sevilla boss Unai Emery is expected to head.

Billionaire investor Farhad Moshiri is keen to introduce the sporting director model at Everton and will continue his search for an appointment after sealing Koeman’s arrival this week.

Everton boss Ronald Koeman says sporting director important for Blues

Monchi lifts the Europa League trophy in May

And the new Everton manager believes having that figure within the management structure at Goodison is vital for the club’s long-term planning.

“I am comfortable in different situation and different directions,” Koeman told the ECHO , when asked if he would be happy to work with a sporting director at Everton.

“I think it is always important for the club, in the long-term story, to have a football man in the club.

“You can call it ‘head of scouting’, you can call it ‘director of football’ because that is important for the club in the long-term and that is no problem for me.”

Koeman held his first press conference as Everton manager earlier this afternoon where the appointment of brother Erwin, as his assistant, and fitness coach Jan Kluitenberg were confirmed.

The Blues boss also hopes to tie up a deal for a new goalkeeping coach in the coming days as well.

Gone for it though Moshiri, even if he doesn't get Monchi.

Of course that's just the Echo and they flip flop depending on what's going to generate clicks.

Will wait for someone sauced to tell us.

Come on... apart from the money, living in Paris and working with some of the best players in the world in the Champions League every season; what can PSG offer that we can't?
