If you have children, tell them you will pay them if they ask their mum how to use a washing machine, then have them report back to you with instructions. This way you get your answer, the wife thinks the kids are becoming a great help around the house and the washing gets done !
Unless your children are in their mid 30-40's and don't know how to use one either, the arl 'im asking for a mate' routine is the last resort.

Alan Irvine has been named as new first-team coach at Norwich.
The former West Brom manager left Blackburn Rovers at the end of last season after a spell as assistant coach to Paul Lambert.
"The most important thing is that I come in and make a contribution, and that's what I'm looking to do," Irvine told the club website.
