We're going to take our time on this.

A DoF isn't critical to have in place by the time the season starts. We'll function well enough without one.

But if it's the route we're taking, then who we choose is perhaps even more important than who the manager is. This is empire-building stuff.

So given those two factors, you'd imagine we'll exercise patience and make the right appointment with a great deal of care.

Ronald Koeman is driving Everton’s transfer dealings this summer as the club take their time over the appointment of a director of football.

The new Blues has handed billionaire investor Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright a summer wish-list as he looks to reshape his squad ahead of the new season.

Koeman made goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg his first signing last week and the club are understood to be in talks with Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel.

Everton remain committed to appointing a director of football but are refusing to rush the process after hopes of landing transfer guru Monchi faded.

Koeman has extensive experience of working under a sporting director and last month told the ECHO he was in favour of the model being implemented at Goodison.

He said: “I think it is always important for the club, in the long-term story, to have a football man in the club.

“You can call it ‘head of scouting’, you can call it ‘director of football’ because that is important for the club in the long-term and that is no problem for me.”

Kenwright has also confirmed that the club are looking at candidates for the role who will have a huge say in Everton’s recruitment policy.

But until an appointment is made, the Blues have asked Koeman to identify summer transfer targets.

will be interesting to see what Koeman has in his locker transfer wise but so far its been too quiet for my liking!! Sick of hearing rumors with nothing happening!!
He rebuilt Soton twice in two years with less of a budget than previously and had them perform better. I don't have a problem with Koeman holding the purse strings.
