The reason why Arteta being played behind Fellaini was ridiculous wasn't because Arteta can't play there but because he couldn't from the right partnership with Fellaini and we didn't have enough creativety as a result. Arsenal are a different team with different needs so he works there for them but he didn't for us and our manager was far far too slow to fix it.

They arent being sent on loan, because they are needed to fill the team sheet. If Distin were to get injured during a game whilst Jags was hurt, Duffy would have needed to step in mid game. If he is on loan, we lose an option there and then everyone is up in arms when we have Hibbert playing centre half.

Actually Duffy's dad said yesterday Shane is going on a season long loan to a Championship side. There goes your theory on that one.

Anichebe and Rodwell have both been hindered by very serious injuries. As has Barkley. They require more time to get back up to speed and to full fitness because of this and of course extended periods of time off from football are going to hurt your development.

Why do people STILL use that injury excuse for Anichebe ? It was over two and a half years ago ffs. How many years should we give him ? Four ? Five years ?

Think you might have missed the more important points of my response.

But yes, we are a different team then Arsenal. We are Everton

I don't think Arteta is doing much for Arsenal that he didn't do for us in his last season. He still passes sideways and sits deep without shooting enough. Now he just passes sideways to better players.

I agree that Moyes should have done something about it a lot sooner though. Back out to the wings is what I'd have done.

Why give him a set position if he functions well in others? Look at Fellaini, we would have been playing a bit differently at the end of last season if we had just left him in his set position. Same goes with Coleman, if we hadn't put him at RM because his set position was RB, things would have been a bit different for him and he could be seen as a 60k flop. Doesn't make sense to use a player in one dimension if they are multi-faceted and have the ability to play in multiple positions, especially while they are young. Rodwell was seen as a CB while coming up as a youth, if Moyes doesnt slot him in the midfield and instead keeps him just at CB, he doesn't get a game for years.

You've heard the phrase 'jack of all trades and master of none' right? If these players aren't being used in the positions they need to learn it hurts their development. Better to send them on loan if those are the options.

How does Coleman hone his defensive skills if he's always played as a winger?

It's what Moyes did too, only it took him a year.

Anyhow the point is Arsenal need a player who does that because their defense goes flying forward so much. We didn't need a player who does that.

If I am being honest. No I didn't think we would finish top 4 that year. That was the year Bolton finished 6th right? Strange year.

And then we nearly beat our neighbors to 4th again two years later. If we'd sacked moyes after we'd finished 17th in 2004 and we talked about hiring a manger who could finish 5th or 4th you'd say it'd be impossible. But it wasn't.

You're not a realist mate, you're a pessimist.

There are times where the players get to play football other than matchday. While we don't know EXACTLY what type of training each player does, Moyes has said that he sees Coleman as a RB for the long term, but needs to work with the lad.

With a threadbare squad, having a young player who gets gametime at a position that isnt completely opposite from where his "true" position is better than nothing. You want players with top-flight experience, but also only want it in there preferred position while there are established players playing there. Seems to be asking a bit much if you ask me.

Doesn't mean accepting relegation either.

Just realized that wasn't you who posted about the day as a lion thing.

My apologies.

I am a younger Evertonian, so never saw the glory days of before. I have grown up in mid-table mediocrity with an occasional Cup run or European tournament, so for me seeing those days continue is well enough. Do I want us to make a run for the title every year? Of course! Do I see that as entirely realistic in our current situation? Not really.....

I want our best eleven on the pitch and it isn't happening. Ross Barkley started two league games all season and came off the bench in four more. Meanwhile Cahill stinks the place out all year and plays 35 league games.

Meanwhile players younger then Ross are starting at Arsenal, Man U and Chelsea. Why? Because those managers have balls and ours doesn't.

And it's like that all over the pitch. Hibbert and Nevile both started the year in terrible form but Coleman never got a chance there. Osman plays fantasically in the hole and then gets kicked out to the wing the very next match. Vellios scores three goals and then gets sent into coventry in favor of Saha who is awful.

The realstic thing is that you advocate sacking the only manager to have broken into the top 4 without spending massive amounts.

Even Wenger inherited the best back five in the game and two top players in Wright and Bergkamp. What did Moyes get?

Realism means accepting we play players out of position because we have the smallest squad in the PL.

Realism means accepting that not one single young player that has been on the fringes of our side has broken through elsewhere and proved Moyes wrong in not picking them.
