If they want 5 subs add a proviso that 2 of them must be from the U23 squad, you then get the five and a couple of younger players getting experience of being with the first team

Fantastic idea, I think the real challenge for managers is they are effectively being reduced to two subs because of the fear of an injury.

We saw a prime example of that at Southampton when James was left on the pitch clearly suffering. We've seen tissue injuries are a real problem and it becomes self-fulfilling problem as managers hold a "sub" in reserve in case of injury, they inevitably pick up another one. So you end up with conservative second halves with risk adverse managers and players all fearing an injury

I note 5 subs set to be approved in the EFL; essentially leaving the PL as the only outlier in Europe. Would be shocked if it is not implemented at next PL meeting.

I think the logical thing is firstly allow only Liverpool to use 5 subs, then based on whether it benefits them or not, allow other clubs to follow suit a few months later once they've built up a nice lead at the top of the table.

you joke, but I do wonder if the 16 odd clubs have played this very very well for themselves. They have delayed the 5 subs and let them and Man city struggle massively with injuries at the start of the season, when having 5 subs would have been a huge huge advantage.

Now, I think it's beneficial to everyone & will get introduced, but perhaps some serious damage done at city and liverpool already.
