Absolutely, if a UK premier league fixture of say Everton v Celtic came up against Ajax v lfc I would argue the later would receive a much lower TV and attendance audience, the lack of away fans and atmosphere alone would ensure this. As I stated in a previous post, once they leave, they shouldn’t be allowed back for at least 50 years...There would be a hit to revenues. The PL would have to think "creatively". However the PL is a strong product so there is no reason why it would collapse.
Great clubs whose self image is built on domestic domination will soon shed their fickle fans when regular hidings are being dealt out.
Just on a practical level - how boring would this league be with No relegation. you could be out of contention after about 5 games and quite literally have absolutely nothing to play for
It's an American system isn't it. No surprise that both clubs are American owned.Just on a practical level - how boring would this league be with No relegation. you could be out of contention after about 5 games and quite literally have absolutely nothing to play for
Can I see a European Super League realizing to maintain competitive balance they'll need to implement something like a salary cap or draft? Honestly yeah, it doesn't seem impossible to me.
I'm not saying I want this to happen or that the American way of running professional sports is superior or anything like that. I'm just telling you what my read of what the Glazers, Fenway, etc. want and are trying to do. And one of the things they will want is a league where they still have a chance to win which will require some kind of balancing procedure. That is way down the road though after they accomplish their initial goal of turning clubs to franchises in all but nameStop trying to apply your, as in collectively, ideas of your sport on our football please. We go by your rules when we pitch up in Merica.
