Proposed changes to the Premier league

The likes of Arsenal and Man Utd will be the whipping boys in that league. Financially it would benefit them but if it’s a league of 20 what good is it finishing 20th and not getting relegated every season or having a chance of even getting close to finishing 1st.

Also think the novelty of the big clubs playing each other every week will wear off big time.
and that's why they'd introduce a salary cap/draft system.
Theres no way they'd bin relegation and not introduce measures to even out the strength/size of each club.
If it's a league of 18 or 20, the novelty wouldn't wear off.

All I'm saying is that there will be huge money thrown at this, if you give them an inch, they'll take a mile and every domestic league will be secondary and excluded eventually.

The whole handling of how it works would have to change. I think there is still something to work with but it is just a fundamentally different type of entertainment from what football currently is.

It’s an NFL Americanised ‘exhibition’ style tournament and it doesn’t sit well with me at all. I can only see those who are abroad being all for this. It just goes completely against all the foundations and laurels that modern football league was created and built upon, built by the locals and working class for the locals and working class of each town and city. It’s a massive dagger in the heart to football, more so English football and it’s heritage. Will be a very dark day for football if/when this happens.

I think a draft works fine if you’ve got a self contained college structure underneath to pick from, world football has no real feeder ‘system’ it’s a labyrinth.

Salary caps would be in everyone’s interest but how do you do that when you have competing leagues in multiple jurisdictions? It’s not like America where it’s one major league in one country.

For transfer of players contracts you need an agreed system under one governing body, even assuming FIFA and EUFA were in favour, why would the rest of their members go for it, Turkey’s don’t vote for Christmas.

I just think these owners are throwing their weight around, if they are in fact serious then they just don’t get European culture or legal structure. It won’t fly.
I'm hoping this is true. But throw enough cash at something and who knows what might happen.

I agree with you, although I think the whole thing has been bleeding since 1992. The PL was not designed to maintain the traditions built in the 20th century either and has slowly build toward this inevitable end.

I don't know why you've put exhibition in quotes though. NFL is a real sports competition and in a lot of ways a fairer one than anything European football puts forth as teams aren't able to have 9 times the payroll as their opponents.

Promotion and relegation is terrible ffom a business point of view.

I understand why foreign investors want it gone so that they could commit to buying clubs and bringing money in.

BUT promotion and relegation is fantastic for football and for the fans. It forces teams to figure out ways to remain competitive and improve. The American way sucks. We have to sit here and support our garbage teams just because we have no choice.

that's what I'm saying.
But watch for fans of the English clubs invited, at least half of them, if not more, will be all for it.
The premier league priced out the working class years ago.
The champions league has beed edging towards this for years.
Clubs need to fight tooth and nail to stop it.

Sorry I meant to refer to Superbowl type exhibitions. There’ll be national anthems and everything prior to games, flares, fireworks, WWE style entrances, half time concerts etc... the game is well and truly drifting away from its heritage and foundations and yes it’s been happening for a while but this would the dagger to the heart.

Oh yeah that makes more sense. I just don't like the implication that a lot of people have in here that the American style systems are bad. They're different and won't work for a sport that has build itself for 150 years another way, but they're no more greedy and self serving than what the PL and CL are doing currently. Both European and American football have their own ways of working and I think both are great and don't need to be completely redone.

I agree, the American style is not for me and shouldn’t be incorporated into the European/English style, it goes against all of the foundations clubs here were built upon. Sadly I think this is the way it’s going thanks to those vultures like John Henry and The Glazers.

They want to take the best of both worlds. Eliminate the risk of relegation and not qualifying for Europe while also keeping the benefit of playing in two lucrative leagues at once.

Love the bravado but this is what we are up against. Half of those clubs are so big they have been in lower divisions recently. Celtic and rangers have limited interest for tv companies hence how low their tv deal is worth. We need to be close to this proposal (pushing for Euro league Div2) with opportunities for promotion otherwise Mosh and Uzzy will walk. Denise hasn’t helped calling out RS and Man U for an apology last week

This is where the FA/PL or whoever need to tell them no. One or the other. If they wanna go let them go on their own heads but if/when a super league does come to fruition they should be told under no circumstances will they be allowed to just walz back into our leagues again, they start from the bottom.

They have let clubs have both for awhile now but with the risks attached. I don't think it will be easy to tell them now they can't have both, even if that would get the greed under control a bit. It isn't a great situation as the only real solution is for the big clubs to say "No, I think I'm happy with the absurd amount of money I have currently." Rich people don't do that.
