Proposed changes to the Premier league

Love the bravado but this is what we are up against. Half of those clubs are so big they have been in lower divisions recently. Celtic and rangers have limited interest for tv companies hence how low their tv deal is worth. We need to be close to this proposal (pushing for Euro league Div2) with opportunities for promotion otherwise Mosh and Uzzy will walk. Denise hasn’t helped calling out RS and Man U for an apology last week
Not sure you understand what they want.

Euro div 2 ??? It will be a closed shop fella , no promotions , no relegations.
Everyone else will be shut out.

Celtic have limited tv interest , really ???
Celtic v Hamilton maybe.
Celtic v Everton or Newcastle or Villa , tv would be jumping at those with huge worldwide coverage.

But lets just bow down and play second fiddle eh.

Why would the rest of the industry, who are competing corporate entities (not academic bodies) want to sign up to a system whereby they have to do all the recruitment and nurturing and following of rules, only to have their investments ‘drafted’ into a rival market they have no access to and is cannibalising their own business.
Why would the rest of the industry have to sign up to it? The member clubs FA's, UEFA, FIFA and the member clubs themselves are the only ones who would have to sign up to it.
The league would buy players. It would work like MLS or any other franchise league.
It mightn't work this way at the start but that's the end goal of these owners (who would also own the league).

I got a "hot take"

I think a super league sounds fun but might not turn out that way. Meaning sometimes matches in sports between talented and disciplined teams are not exciting. Every team would be conservative and hard to break down

What makes leagues fun is the crazy results, the surprises like the Villa RS game.

Also it loses the excitement of a rare match up between Bayern and Madrid to Madrid vs Liverpool, etc. If you see that every season, it won't be the same.

Just my take.

The PL is it’s own organisation, they don’t have to agree to it. And why would they? They voted unanimously to stop the same people grabbing power last

UEFA: “The UEFA President has made it clear on many occasions that UEFA strongly opposes a Super League. The principles of solidarity, of promotion, relegation and open leagues are non-negotiable. It is what makes European football work”

A European super league doesn’t work as an idea, as the clubs they’d want to form part of it, are followed by plenty of plastic glory hunters who they’d need to pay for the product. Only they chose their club of choice as they win pots regularly, and in an 18 team super league only 1 post would be on offer. How long until the glory hunters tire of seeing their club as also rans every season as opposed to domestic champions and cup winners?

The expanded CL format is already well on its way to becoming reality, this rehashed dug up crap is merely the RS & United making veiled and hollow threats.

yea, I know. like I said, I hope they dig their heels in and don't let that happen.

Absolutely, if a UK premier league fixture of say Everton v Celtic came up against Ajax v lfc I would argue the later would receive a much lower TV and attendance audience, the lack of away fans and atmosphere alone would ensure this. As I stated in a previous post, once they leave, they shouldn’t be allowed back for at least 50 years...

Yes then imagine the former is part of an established product, and the latter is a mid table tie in another continent in a new product.

Yea, north america loves the PL but only ourselves and the "big six". They are fanatical about real and barca tho.
If you have a league with Real, Barca, Man u, Liverpool, Bayern and Juventus, that's what they'll watch. Certaintly ahead of Everton V Newcastle.

We will see. They don't currently watch Bayern V Juventus in any significant numbers though, so I'm not sure why changing it to a league format, and ensuring most of the sides who currently compete to win trophies do not will magically enhance their appeal.

La Liga president Javier Tebas told ESPN: "The authors of this idea, if they really exist because there is nobody actually defending it, not only show total ignorance of the organisation and customs of European and world football, but also a serious ignorance of the audiovisual rights markets.

"A project of this type will mean serious economic damage to the organisers themselves and to those entities that finance it, if they exist, because they're never official. These 'underground' projects only look good when drafted at a bar at 5 in the morning."

in the UK I would back Everton V Celtic, but I think Global viewing would mean the later would be miles ahead

But guesswork obviously

I think you're a tad naive, if you don't think Celtic and Rangers, playing in the PL would not have enormous pull. I'd go as far as to say I don't think any teams games would be "miles ahead" of them.

It's a very open statement, which calls into question the finance behind it.

I saw a Liverpool supporting journalist make 2 very good point with this.

1) Has anyone actually gone out and seen if there is any interest for this product. As whenever it is mooted, the reaction seems overwhelmingly negative. Thats before the glib realities of what it means occur.

2) Teams such as Liverpool have made the argument that its they, not West Brom or Burnley who bring the revenue in. But if they enter this league, the majority of the teams will become West Brom, Burnley etc. What occurs then? How is it decided how many gets handed out?
