Prostitution - Should We Legalise It?

Yeah i love it all, the human mind and how it works is incredible, so much we dont yet know but are discovering stuff all the time. And the more you learn about the dark side of humanity the more you can understand it. Life would be pretty boring if we were all made the same lol.

That book looks interesting, don't usually go for fiction but i'll see if i can pick it up. Have you read "The Killer Inside Me" by the same guy which people in the reviews mentioned?

I have read The Killer Inside Me (Lou Ford is the narrator and madman) and it is probably the more unsettling of the books. Both books use a lot of black humour, but Pop 1280 continues it until the end, whereas The Killer Inside Me gets more into Ford's personality and pathology. I personally would argue that Thompson is the finest writer in his genre. I would seriously recommend you take a punt and get both books. Pretty shocking because they're written in the first person narrative, so the story is solely from their points of view. And neither of these guys does guilt, or plays moraliser. It's all matter-of-fact, regardless of what they get up to.

there was a drive-in brothel in holland, you pass it on the train going into 'dam from haarlem. a load of bust-stops and then a car-park with screens dividing where you pull-over . one of my mates (thats not code for me by the way) went in a taxi and the driver had to get out whilst he did the biz, he also went on his motorbike as well.

if it was legalised would it become more acceptable in relationships ?
would it be advertised ?.........you buy one you get one free

Nicely put Bluelass.

Id like to hear Neb's view on whether batting the monkey over some saucy pics and visiting a brothel are essentially in the same league.

Whats the most sensitive part of your body when you having a wank?

Your ears.

I'll work something out for you tomorrow, McBain. Only thing I've got to say now is that of every perspective given on this, yours was the only one that gave it from the punter's point of view.

Thats what I would call a loaded statement

I guess i'm in the tiny tiny minority then.

If a woman (or man) wishes to have sex with someone for the exchange of money i don't see that morally wrong whatsoever.

Sex is a basic human desire, the wish to have sexual intercourse with a fellow human exists in pretty much all of us. Because it is enjoyable.

As long as it is safe and consensual and she was 100% ok with it i honestly couldn't give a crap if my sister wanted to do so. Good luck to her i'd say.

And whats worse, being an honest above board prostitue in a legal and safe brothel, or going out and getting pissed on a Friday night and shagging someone you've never met? Yet the former is acceptable behavior for the nations youth.
Agree with you in general coz I think sex is a natural human desire. Not sure how I would feel if a loved one was a prostitute. Possibly as Neb says, Id be horrified. But that isn't conclusive proof of it being immoral or wrong in any way. I'd also be horrified if my son joined the army or took up professional boxing. that would be due to the (undeniable) dangers he would face. I also think we need to have a historical perspective of things when we talk about morality. Centuries ago, virtually nobody batted an eyelid at the idea of marching into foreign countries and slaughtering, raping and pillaging; the idea of racial superiority was the norm (for all races). More recently in history, women and ethnic minorities were denied the vote and homosexuality was illegal, while acting was considered improper and left handed children were literally forced to use their right hand. Our society still has alot of hang ups about sex even those of us who consider ourselves objective and modern
And while I would certainly agree that the vast majority of prostitutes are forced or coerced into the profession and would much rather do something else, the same could be said about all shitty jobs. I mean, if there was a strict health control and security for the protitutes, I think I'd prefer a loved one to do that than go down a mine.

That's a loaded statement and untrue. Realistically, legalising brothels is not an option that just happens. It would take years of negotiation, and proposed bills would almost certainly be pushed backwards and forwards between the Lords and Parliament. And nobody, apart from you, just now, is being morally righteous. It's a complicated issue and not one that can be summed up by a couple of assertions.
I have been following the thread closely and havent read any post suggesting we could/should just dive into this. Obviously this is a delicate subject and both sides tend to be a bit dogmatic in this type of debate (in all types of debates really). Personally think, from what I've read and heard about the Dutch experience, that it is the model to study if any country is contemplating making such a move.

So.................................... would any of you actually use a protitute if it was legal?

Me? I would yes. If i was single (which i am at the moment but hopefully wont be if it ever gets legalised :D )i'd have no problems in going to a brothel if i felt like it. As long as it was safe regulated and all above board i reckon i'd give it a go.

The only time I visited a brothel was to get Rooney's autograph:lol::lol:(joking honest)

Right. I'm about to start a dissertation and believe it or not - theres a fair few educated folk on here. I'm looking at you Neb, Neiler, Bruce and TX...

I'm just about to start mine, drawing up a plan. I'm thinking of an area within prostitution. That way, I can go to brothels for research purposes. Probably going to look at positives and negatives of the prospect of legalising brothels, as Sweden and other countries have.

Anyone any ideas what they think would be good to include?
