Homepage Article Rafael Benitez Appointed Everton Manager

Good article by Greg O'Keeffe yesterday in the Athletic.

Aways on the training ground, never switches off from improving the team and....“He’s the fastest at adapting to things during a game that I’ve ever seen,” says one football insider. “Rafael reads games like no other. He will always back his starting game plan and system but when it gets to the point it’s just not working he is decisive enough to change and will have plans B, C and D ready too.

How we've missed someone who can do that from the dugout.

Let's be honest, Benitez plays a rigid 4231. A system that has never worked at this club under several managers. We need a pragmatic manager here who will pick the best system for the players we have.

Every manager I can remember has been abysmal at in-game changes so this has the potential to be genuinely exciting if true. Obviously we could do with a decent player or two on the bench but hopefully that’s sorted this summer.

I once worked in Germany. Last time I checked however, I wasn't German, but hey each to their own.
He's a manager that has come from China, which in context is correct as its the very last thing that he's done. its a valid and accurate statement.

Hi mate, the reason I said that I think the bulk will back him is looking at the announcement on Facebook yesterday, there have been 7.8k positive likes and 1.2k negative (although there were 1.6k laughing!), which may be a more representative size sample than on here. Maybe.....
This is
It appeals to me after having two lazy unmotivated men like Koeman and Ancelotti as manager to have a driven man in the dugout.

If he's given a chance, and the players respond, we stand a fair chance with him in charge. He'll have to do it in months though. That's the biggest issue.
He has a lot to prove with the move he has made, but he is single minded and will be very driven for success. His reputation is truly on the line.

I hope he shakes things up.

Formatiomns work when managers teach and convince players they can do it.

I will pay a bit of interest, but after the garbage we had to watch last year and now this, added to the fact that the PL have not punished the big 6 EL breakaways, then I’m a bit cured of it all anyway.
Football is supposed to be fun for the fans. There has been no joy in Everton for years now.
This is me. Nothing actually against Rafael tbh I think it’s more an just past caring. Not going the match for year I haven’t missed it like I thought I would. Could also be an issue with us renewing our season ticket on the direct debit and tbh am not overly bothered if I renew now anyway. That super league fiasco I think finished it for me and also the pathetic fines handed out. That with the new champions league format which was basically sneaked in whilst the super league was getting more momentum. Think non league is were I am going to start watching my footy. VAR, favours with the snidey sky six, daft kick off times. I have felt like this for years and always thought we would turn the tide somehow but suppose not.

We've been too rigid in game plans for years. It's lost us games from very early on in the 90 minutes. The prospect of someone stepping in to put an end to that is encouraging.

...and he wont give a flying one about that and will keep on doing it his way.

This is a different creature in the dugout fropm all the rest...for a number of reasons!!

Yes and when they suit the 11 players selected.

I really do not like 4231. I think we've had our fill of it with Everton sides over the last 7 or 8 years.
Let's see what he lines up with. It's players knowing what they should do - and the signings he'll bring in - that can make it work.
