Your RS mate disagrees with the guy who was brought in to oversee the sale of their club. OK then.

RS mate "Benitez fell out with the owners because of transfer money and he had started questioning them so they wanted him gone. We finished 7th in the league and got knocked out of the champs league early, the footy had become crap, teams had sussed out Benitez's tactics, there was never a plan B, so the club and Benitez decided by mutual consent to part company"

Because it takes 2 seconds to find a fact.

My bad it was actually Martin Broughton who said Rafael walked.

"Rafael basically pulled out of the whole thing and said ‘I’m going to leave this to my lawyers to negotiate.’

“He didn’t say he was leaving, and I never told him he was leaving. It was ‘I’ll leave this to my lawyer’ and his lawyer’s stance was ‘what are the terms for Rafael going’
lol I had to check when you joined the forum just to see it wasn't when Benitez joined the club! You sound like his agent and/or his biggest fan. Have you always been a fan of his or was it his Geordie Glories/China travels that won you over?

Given that Moshiri now appears to be missing in action, Barrett-Baxendale considering her future options and Brands out the door, you do wonder who on earth at the club actually has the authority/will to make this change and how on earth we will come to an agreement on who Benitez's successor should be.

Benitez has been dealt a miserable hand this season, not even his biggest detractors can deny this but our form has sunk to such despair that not even his biggest acolytes can make a case that he should be retained.

Benitez has reached the end, he might as well see out another tonking at Chelsea before being forgotten about shortly after.

As doubtful as I am about his credentials, I think there is a very strong argument that Dunc should be given the job on interim basis until the end of the season. I would be very concerned for any new manager coming in with this squad and lack of funds that they would be able to make a decent fist of this job, not to mention that I think any manager with above average intelligence would run a mile if they were offered this poisoned chalice. I think with Dunc and the good will he gained from his previous stint as interim manager, he would be able to unify the fanbase and playing squad to guide us away from danger just through sheer effort.

We can then properly take stock of our situation in the summer. Obviously appointing a interim manager comes with certain pitfalls that United discovered whereby a bit of success almost compels the top brass to give the bloke the job permanently but we need to appoint a proper footballing CEO in the meantime and hopefully come the summer they can look at the situation with a calm and experienced head and make the right decision on what's best for the club.
A lot of sensible thought here. The silence from the club is almost audible. Only Moshiri is really left to make the decision and he seems to be burying his head in the sand and hoping things turn around. Usually in these situations things don't turn themselves around, a crisis requires an action.
And its not firing Jimmy the Kitman.

It's a step by step process. Last season was a mode of playing that suited them, improvement on the previous seasons in terms of points, wins, goals etc. His next step was indentifying who to sell and who to bring in. That's gone now.

I'm sure if Carlo was still here, we'd have had bolstered and shuffled the pack. He was already looking for another CB and some pace to improve the quality of football.
You might be right. Myself I don't think he was the right sort of manager for where we are as a club and i don't think he was ever really in it for the long haul. He left at the first opportunity and his history shows that he's only ever had one long term job in his whole career so I don't think there was some sort of plan that was going to take 4 or 5 years because he's just not that type of manager. I loved him don't get me wrong but I don't think he was ever the right man for the job at hand great manager though he is. I'd gladly take him back though!

If he goes I wouldn't give the role, either permanently or on an interim basis, to anyone currently involved with the club.

In fact I'd go further than that and look to get rid of everyone on the coaching side who are there not for their credentials but because they once played for the club

No more jobs for the boys, clear the lot out and employ only the best people. Start again at all levels of the club; no more family club mentality, install ethos of winning and success.
