he’s actually mobile and athletic though so can occupy a defender and get on the end of long punts, rondon might aswell be having a lie down in the centre circle most of the time
and crosses hence Target man. I am not comparing him to Rondon as there is no comparison to be made but that is also Rondons main attribute but miles behind DCL. The main topic was about Sims/Dobbin whereas some people think that just putting them in will solve all our problems when they haven't got the experience of PL knowledge. They are raw but I have no problem with them getting 30 minutes a game but not be used from the start as a leading striker

Chelsea won the European Cup last year without Lukaku, and Lukaku didn't really play as a target man last year for Inter. Dortmund haven't won anything (except cup competitions) with Haaland, and don't play 4-5-1 anyway.

So well done, high five etc
I'm agreeing with you. Won't even touch Haaland if he was free. I hope we can sell DCL for some money since no team will want a targetman. We don't need all this big tall strong and fast targetman strikers. Pfft.

That is my worry, though based solely on how they have performed playing for us I cannot see a footballing reason why Rondon should start ahead of Simms or Dobbin. They are both better players than Rondon is and are going to be much more likely to play well against the likes of Burnley, Norwich etc
I wouldn’t say necessarily they are better players at the moment but it would definitely be beneficial to play these 2 players. They will get better and deserve as much playing time as Rondon. These 2 players have a chance to adapt and improve given the chance. Gordon has definitely got better in the 4 months game and looks like cementing a starting position.

TBF I don't think you can use "can aim crosses at him" as a definition of a target man - by that measure Richy is a target man.

You do know Simms was unavailable until very recently. I am not defending Rondon here but he came to us totally unfit and not expecting to be put in the deep end so early. DCL injured gave us the choice of Dobbin or Rondon. It made sense to go with Rondon due to experience but his fitness levels held him back. TBH all 3 of them (as they are now) shouldn't be getting a game but we have no choice now. Personally I would still go with Rondon for an hour then give simms/dobbin 30 minutes to accustomise and get a feel of what is required against PL defenders. For me it should be bits and pieces this season for the kids. When DCL is back then stick with the kids being back up and phase Rondon out
That’s a good point but I would rotate these lads with Rondon not necessarily play Rondon automatically. Show these lads trust and reward them if they perform. Also create a bit of competition so no one gets a free pass to play. If the young lads start to feel part of it then it will build their confidence if we get the team playing well behind them. Chelsea was great shot in the arm for these lads.
