I keep hearing of these ‘ones who want us to lose’ who are they? The only one I can recall saying this is @davek. It is possible to support the team whilst being appalled with the manager, both in his paucity of constructive tactics and his Machiavellian schemings and complete inability to accept any responsibility for his failings, it’s always someone else’s fault.
Let us get to the end of this season, unload as many of our second rate players as possible. Replace them with better quality in as far as our budget allows, and try to set a course for 22/23 and support the manager whoever he is then, and the team.

I'm agreeing with you. Won't even touch Haaland if he was free. I hope we can sell DCL for some money since no team will want a targetman. We don't need all this big tall strong and fast targetman strikers. Pfft.
Pfft??? There's no need for that sort of language among friends. Filth! You'll be saying, "Jeepers creepers" next.

Tsk!

Entirely reasonable opinion.
I strongly disagree with it because I dislike the current managers tactics and methodology and I cannot foresee any improvement in our long term future if we adhere to them. In fact I think they are actually deeply prejudicial to our purported aims.
As a long time ST (have only missed a handful of home matches in 50odd years ), I will always support the team, the manager however has to earn my support and he hasn’t begun to convince me thus far, quite the opposite in fact.

Fair enough. I have never professed to be an expert on tactics, methodology etc, and I am not trying to be smart saying that. I am a ST holder and like most have witnessed the sublime and maybe not quite the pits over nearly 70 years attending. The game has changed in many ways and I get very uptight when I see us under various managers trying to play out from the back with footballers who are not capable of achieving it, sideways and backwards, and in some cases going from a corner kick all the way back to Pickford. In the 1980s we did not lump the ball forward but we had great footballers. Suchlike players are now typically at Man City and a few other privileged clubs. We may never ever join that elite because of the enormous investment needed. I would be content bowling along around the top 5 or 6 and playing "decent football" whatever that is.

In an ideal world mate, unfortunately we have been left with a load of expensive unsaleable duds.
You may be right. But what if the present owner is so loaded, he may be prepared to back another spending spree, to correct the errors made previously, and write off the losses? These owners are not usually football men and take on football clubs as an ego trip to boast about with friends. He may need to repair his reputation when having dinner with other billionaires in Monte Carlo on his yacht. It was Peter Johnson about whom it was alleged he was having dinner on his yacht when a rich friend said why don't you get yourself a football club? It's great fun. That is what led to him buying Everton. Usmanov's so far poor investment may be biting his arse in top society.

But we can't just go and spend willy nilly, we are constrained by FFP caused by our previous bad management.

I suppose the best course of action is to accept that all blues have the right to get behind or not get behind any manager they choose. It is folly to accuse people of not supporting the team because they strongly feel the manager will do even more harm to the club than his predecessors.

I am quite happy for people to support Benitez, I have no problem with it, but, it is a shame that the same old posters, who will defend Benitez at all costs and, quite often, will try to excuse his poor tactics and team selection, in the face of overwhelming evidence that he is
getting it wrong, feel they have the right to make comments telling fellow blues they must support the manager, or, that if they won't support the manager they shouldn't go to the match.

How dare they,

Then there are the posters who constantly try to be sarcastic, without adding anything to the debate. They are the worst of all.

I have nothing to add.

Oh..!

I'll touch him if he declares himself to not be a targetman and promise never to hold the ball or head any ball coming his way. Target men are bad. Nobody wins with one. /s
