Agree with this.

What are the chances of things changing under Benitez?

With the new window as good as open, he is supposed to be in total control?

Will he ever build and coach a team to be more positive?

We as fans want to see exciting attacking football, will we ever get that under Mr Benitez?

If the answer is no, how can he be a long term plan for us?

Are you sure, I am not wholly kean on Benitez but will have to wait and see. New players in, old players out can be the difference and get players of the injury list.

Me, I want winning footbal if it is exciting attacking football to manage that fine. The club needs points on the table who cares how that is done?

Being stubborn could be his downfall if we don't climb the table, we certainly can't remain hovering near the bottom, to risky!
Was literally just about to post this mate, I usually judge things on a season by season basis so will wait a bit longer but Benitez himself has said top 7 (I struggle to see this tbh) I honestly could not care less who he managed previously as there will always be previous link ups with managers/players that wind up fans, for me it's this negative approach to the way we play. Injuries are a unfortunate part of the game and at no point have we had more than anyone else, what killed us for a couple of weeks was the stupid suspensions on top of the injuries. I have no issue either with counter attack football but id rather we play the way most teams play it now pushing up to win the ball back then break rather than the Benitez method which is to sit back and wait for it to come to you. I have only ever asked for him to change the tactics a bit otherwise ultimately I think it will be his downfall.

Absolutely the club needs points, but will we have to make do with negative style football for the foreseeable?

New players in gives hope, maybe things will change, as you say, it's wait and see.

One way or another though, things must change!

Why? you aren't an Everton fan
Do you need to be a fan to want to see a team.. players or manager do well?

I follow loads of clubs.. like to see Napoli do well in Italy... Athletico in Spain even Ajax in Holland.. there’s four or five Premier League Clubs I like to see do well and I always look for results of the North West Clubs too... what’s wrong with this.. is there some sort of problem having an opinion on different clubs...

In an ideal world that would be good, but we ain’t in an ideal world. And we have to sell someone, well more than one really.

If we can improve other positions. IE RB, midfield, number 10? Than sacrificing a little bit at left back for a while, hopefully won’t be an issue.

I wonder if Rafael is thinking of going to wing backs, probably a quicker and cheaper way to get up the table, as in theory we should be harder to beat. Also wouid help Mykolenko and Patterson settle in, both seem good going forward. While I think Digne lacks pace and dynamism to play wing back imo.

Would also help Branthwaite settle into the team and Godfrey as well.

Moving this from Digne to Benitez thread.

If we went to something like 3412 using wingbacks then it probably benefits, Bramthwaite, Mykolenko, Nkounkou, Godfrey, Coleman and possibly Patterson if he joins.

Interestingly, Mykolenko can also play left centre back in a 3 and it could be that the number 3 shirt is taken up with another player? I like the idea of him playing LCB and Godfrey RCB while developing Branthwaite to play between them. Really athletic back 3.

As you say, it should be cheaper to buy more 'defensive' types than attackers.

For a 3412 we'd have DCL, Richarlison and Gray for the 3 forward positions already. Gordon and Dobbin as cover with possibly one more needed.

Adding Patterson would, in theory mean we would then mainly focus on centre midfield.

Seems like a good idea to me.

Unlike some here, I do not profess to have intricate knowledge of everything he does and reading his mind.

Managers don't change their style though, managers have their way of setting teams up and that won't ever change.

Didn't watch of his China crap but at Liverpool Newcastle Everton Madrid inter he was a terrible defensive boring manager

Haven't got a clue what he played in China but I know his team were awful.

No idea how he done in Naples but imagine played the same way

"Attractive" is a subjective term open to individual's perception. I didn't watch all his teams either. I think winning is mostly attractive. Trophies are attractive too. I'm just making a friendly poke because he said ALL, implying he watched every team he managed and came to the conclusion they are ALL not attractive, hence his biggest fan because who else watches every game of every team he managed? No need to be too serious. Happy new year to you too.

Edit - To add on, personally, start of the season was pretty attractive and fun to watch while winning, not so fun and attractive when Everton was losing.

I’ve seen every team play that’s he’s managed other than Valencia and the Chinese lot and they’ve all played dour negative football, he hasn’t moved with the times as his management career has shown over the last several years. Allaydyce with a tan and better PR
