Given that Moshiri now appears to be missing in action, Barrett-Baxendale considering her future options and Brands out the door, you do wonder who on earth at the club actually has the authority/will to make this change and how on earth we will come to an agreement on who Benitez's successor should be.
Benitez has been dealt a miserable hand this season, not even his biggest detractors can deny this but our form has sunk to such despair that not even his biggest acolytes can make a case that he should be retained.
Benitez has reached the end, he might as well see out another tonking at Chelsea before being forgotten about shortly after.
As doubtful as I am about his credentials, I think there is a very strong argument that Dunc should be given the job on interim basis until the end of the season. I would be very concerned for any new manager coming in with this squad and lack of funds that they would be able to make a decent fist of this job, not to mention that I think any manager with above average intelligence would run a mile if they were offered this poisoned chalice. I think with Dunc and the good will he gained from his previous stint as interim manager, he would be able to unify the fanbase and playing squad to guide us away from danger just through sheer effort.
We can then properly take stock of our situation in the summer. Obviously appointing a interim manager comes with certain pitfalls that United discovered whereby a bit of success almost compels the top brass to give the bloke the job permanently but we need to appoint a proper footballing CEO in the meantime and hopefully come the summer they can look at the situation with a calm and experienced head and make the right decision on what's best for the club.
