RB Leipzig

Still carrying quite a lot of injuries into this weekend’s opening Bundesliga fixture against newly promoted Union Berlin:

Wolf (long term)
Adams (medium term)
Bidstrup (medium term)
Augustin (unknown)

Back training this week:

Upamecano
Halstenberg
Kampl
Forsberg
Ampadu

Could be a thin squad at the weekend but more than enough and no excuses really for anything but a win.

Just a little news round-up for this week:

- Safe standing section purportedly ready for 2020/21 season. Capacity will be 11,200 with an overall stadium capacity increased to 49,000
- Timo Werner still hasn't decided to accept the current new deal proposed to him. Sporting Director meeting with his agent this week for further talks. Suspect they'll still use him this season even if he doesn't renew. Currently no one wants him but after Leroy Sane's ACL injury that could change. Fee they're looking for is nearer 40m euros.
- Noah Ohio (16) signs from Man City and goes into the U17 squad for the season.
- Union Berlin fans play to boycott the first 15 minutes of Sunday's game in protest but feel it's a little strange, and pointless, since it's their first ever Bundesliga home game.
- RBL will be in Pot 4 for the CL group stages - the weakest pot due to their low coefficient. Can possibly draw with RB Salzburg as they're in Pot 3. Draw takes place 29th August
- Augustin linked with the newly rich as balls OGC Nice, he wants to stay at RBL but we shall see. A replacement will be bought if he's sold.

Mukiele will play in central defense with Klostermann out wide - not the other way round.

That's still Mukiele - Orban - ??? if Konate isn't fit.

My guess would be Halstenberg with Saracchi/Laimer/Luan out wide.

To my knowledge, Mukiele plays right-back or right center-back in a 3-man central defense. Klostermann is actually a trained center-back, but has played in recent years as a right-back. He can even play left-back. And he is good for the outside because he is very fast. Laimer actually plays in the defensive midfield, but he is flexible. In the cup match on Sunday he played as a left-back and did not do well. Saracchi was not in the start-team, because he has entered late in the training because of the Copa America. Halstenberg was injured on Sunday. Candido is still very young and will need more time.

Luan, Saracchi & Halsty are all fit to play.
Laimer will maybe play left-mid if needed.
They'll definitely play Mukiele in central defense before they play Klostermann there as Klostermann is better attacking.

However, we shall see on Sunday, could play a back 4 in the end.

Bundesliga Assumptions:

I still think it's clear it'll be a Bayern/Dortmund 1-2 this season.

RBL will be strong but under a new coach, lots of new players and a slightly new system it won't click right away. Some really strong teams all aiming for the european places this year. Leverkusen, Gladbach, Wolfsburg, Frankurt & Hoffenheim have decent squads, maybe Schalke will improve under David Wanger (no typo).

Yes, we know more on Sunday. Nagelsmann sometimes does surprising things and prefers flexible players who can play in multiple positions.
By the way, Lookman has good chances for the starting team. I'm curious.

I think Bayern will smash it this season. I know Dortmund ran them close last season but similar to the RS they had a lot things go their way and couldn't do it. Alcacer might have had the greatest finishing season ever. That at the very least isn't happening again. And Bayern don't have to worry about learning a new system again to start the season.

Schalke are going to be horrible. I don't know what about Wagner's career makes him seem like a competent top flight manager.
