RB Leipzig

Strong rumours Marsch could be sacked before Tuesday's CL game vs City with Kurth (assistant) being interim until a successor is appointed.

Rumoured names so far: Edin Terzic (Dortmund), Roger Schmidt (PSV), Robert Klauss (Nurnberg), Bo Svensson (Mainz), Matthias Jaissle (Salzburg), Ruben Amorim (Sporting).

RBL Matchday

It's the final round of CL group stage fixtures and the final attempt to stay in a European competition next year. Basically just need to match or better whatever result Bruges get against PSG so fingers cross they get whalloped. Both City and PSG are through to the next round and can't switch positions so expecting experiemental lineups from both clubs. First game post-Marsch but not looking likely to see anything different on the pitch under the interim. Still a fair few out with injuries/COVID but strong squad to choose from as they try show they're worth their wages. Looks to be a 4-2-2-2 I think?

Edit: Well, the "experimental" City side was basically switching keepers...

The game is LIVE from 5.30pm on BT Sport 2

Jesse Marsch understandably binned after a poor 6 months.

I said it earlier and I'll say it again. The squad isn't all that. Nkunku is brilliant, Olmo too when healthy, I like some of the young talent like Gvardiol and Szoboszlai but they aren't all the way to their peaks and the striker position is crucially a complete wasteland. Central midfield is pretty meh compared to some of the teams they're competing with too.

I don't think Marsch did well but I also think the quality isn't where the club thinks it is and that making the CL was always going to be a struggle.

I don't think you know much about German footy in all fairness though.

They've finished in the top 4 in 4 of their 5 seasons in the top flight. There aren't 4 better squads in the league than this one. Absolutely not a shot.
They've sold a lot of the best players from those sides and replaced them with players who aren't as good though.

Say what you want about Keita with the RS or Werner's finishing at Chelsea, both walk right back in. Same with Sabitzer and either of the CBs they sold last summer (even if I still don't really rate Upamecano).

And I do trust that in time the team will come back because the talents they have bought are going to get better. But they aren't there this season yet.

This side finished 2nd last season and lost 1 overrated CB, 1 overrated midfielder and 1 always injured CB. Replaced the defenders (Gvardiol is already better than Upamecano for me) but didn't replace Sabitzer but meh, he was much of muchness with the rest anyway.

Please let me know which 4 squads you think are better though as I'm curious why you'll pick Leverkusen and another.

Were they overrated before they left? Well Upamecano was, but Sabitzer?

Leverkusen have the better striker and two attackers who are better than everyone bar Nkunku. I really rate Demirbay and Tapsoba after some rocky games early on has settled into being a really good player. And Frimpong is a more consistent version of Angelino.

They've been a hot finishing team so far but I think they're really really talented and can still be decent even when that comes back to Earth.

Yes to the bold as I'd commented on for a while now.

Frankfurt played booked for diving trying to win another pen the scumbags. Angelino started well, Sabitzer has been wank last few games. Should have started Olmo instead.

Honestly Sabitzer is so so bad at the moment.

Sabitzer is playing that bad Klaassen looks good.

Excited to watch Sabitzer be absolutely bloody wank again tonight.

Leverkusen's squad though? No proper LB, Andrich in midfield, Tah who is properly gash these days, Hradecky in nets? They have some fantastic players but squad?

You haven't given me the 4th team though.

I'd say Hoffenheim run them close. I don't know anything about Freiburg but I'm intrigued. And Union may not be nearly as good but they're one of those sides with an amazing level of continuity that equalizes it some.

But congrats I guess on having the 4th best squad and acting like CL is a God given right. I think RBL directors need to acknowledge that they've not done their best work in recent windows.

I thought Sabitzer was brilliant last season when I watched. Idk.
