I struggle to see where we pick up points from here. We are absolutely woeful. The last two games have shown how bad we are. If we drop into that bottom three, unfortunately, I don’t see a repeat of last year. This team is worse, waaaayyyy worse. There is nothing on that pitch.
Got it horribly wrong by playing the naive 4-4-2 formation.

Might not be the worst thing that Palace have hit some form as the game next week isn't a 'must win' for them now. That said, if we turn up with a similar starting 11 to today it's going to be a hard ask to win there, or anywhere for that matter
The odds for us beating Palace next weekend aren't too dissimilar to the odds of Fulham beating us today, even though at this moment it doesn't really feel that way. Palace are on a good run and are a decent side but 4 wins on the bounce is something few teams achieve in this league. Being away might even help as all our disastrous results have been at home.

Changes needed though: Maupay should never start a game for us again. Hopefully DCL back, if not Simms, I'd probably play Martin Sherif ahead of him now. As poor as we were for much of the match, I think Simms buries one of the chances Maupay had first half, and if we go in at half time it's a whole different story.

I had a bad feeling about today (we've been losing matches like that all season) but weirdly don't feel too pessimistic about next weekend.

More often than not you win games by playing good football. No one 1-0s their way through a season any more. That type of football hasn’t worked for the last 5 years.

Define "good" football though? If Southampton string 100 passes together then get smashed 9.0 trying to play "good" football...surely it defeats the purpose.

If you mean, modern progressive football then thats different. But the counter argument is the same...it's not about a brand or style, it's about finding a way to win.

Ancelloti, Simeone, Conte, Allegiri for eg don't play modern progressive football. They've won titles based on function.

If we're talking Championship teams and the last 5 years...the majority are ex-premier league sides who have either spent money or allowed the manager to 100% control the club to take them to the next level....and most get relegated the following season.

Someone mentioned Burnley this season..Kompany brought in 8 Belgian league players he knew and for the most part has 1.0 or edged games by a goal all this season

I know everyone hates it when people do this but I’m not sure we pick up more than 3 points from the next 5 games, four of which are against teams bang in form (Palace, Newcastle, Leicester, Brighton and City).

Which would leave us on 30 points with Wolves (a) and Bournemouth (h) to go. Both would be must wins in that case. It’s going to go to the wire.

Dyche will not let these players throw in the towel and we need to inject some fight into those performances to give ourselves any chance.

"Good football" is entirely subjective. Probably a very loose definition would be any style of football where you try an win a game by scoring a few goals from open play. How that manifests itself is entirely subjective. Barcelona's Tiki Taka was a very slow style of football but extraordinarily technical and effective. Bayerns Total football was all about getting the ball forward as quickly as possible and creating disruption in the transition. Most teams these days play the second style.

Trying to go 1-0 up off a set piece and sit on it is the very definition of bad football though and has never been anything else. Even the Simeones and Mourinhos of the world wouldn't go for it.

What we are seeing now at Everton is why. Eventually you will always revert to the mean and for every fluke worldie from Coleman to win you a game there will be 5 where it doesn't work out. Carlos season with us was a great example of this at Everton. Top of the league playing attacking football, fell down the league playing negative football.

And for what it is worth i don't agree with the last point. Over the last few years more clubs that have come up have stayed up, and it has been the ones who come up playing attacking football that tend to stick.

It's what we do though. We have a terrible run of games in which you expect us to pick no points up and we do well. We play the likes of Villa and Fulham at home were you expect us to pick up points and we get nothing.

The point of Everton Football Club is to defy logic.

Pure championship that team. Worst team assembled in our history. It’s no surprise a well drilled Fulham have slapped us about.

I think the fans have finally been worn down.

A lot people have given up and accepted that this side is taking us down.
Nothing suggests otherwise right now. Like one of the stages of grief. Had denial, anger and depressing is what today is. Acceptance follows.

Another crumb of comfort is Newcastle losing badly today so hopefully they go on a bad run now. If the players are up for it enough on the day we play them with a baying crowd behind them then there is a possibility of 3 points. In fact it's almost a must win now.
