I would suspect most Villa fans had little or no recollection of relegation either. We went down in '86/'87 and came straight back up and prior to that it was in the first half of the 1970s, unfortunately, that is over 50 years ago now. YoYos go up and down and up and down and so on, being relegated from the top flight twice in the last 73 years is hardly yoyo.
Three times, surely?

I've siad this before and I'll repeat it: that point against Palace away has been VERY inder-rated...both the point and what it could mean and the manner of the performance.

It was "a dull game" the experts said...which is exactly what a relelgation threstaned club had to make it at a dangerous opposition's ground.

That might be priceless in terms of the final standings and in the way it's drawn a line under the previous two losses and provided a basis for better results.
Agreed, a very good point away from home. I'd take another one on thursday night!

I still have faith we will just about survive. I don’t think Sean has done a bad job. Victories above Arsenal and Brentford, draws away at Forest, Palace and Chelsea, a draw against Spurs at home. If this was the start of the season we would of picked up 13 points from 12 games, having played Arsenal twice, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester United.

No matter how many predictions I do, I still feel as if Leeds and Forest are done for. They have too many tough games, and I think Southampton are probably already too far gone. However, we need to perform against Newcastle who will be full of confidence after their massive result. The first goal is vital and I’m hopeful it comes from us and from Dom. I keep doing predictors and I’m being particularly harsh on us and everytime I do one I still have us finishing 17th.

A win on Thursday changes everything however Goodison needs to rock. It needs to bounce from left to right. Newcastle fans will be singing at the top of their lungs, we need to out sing them. Everyone needs to be up for this. This to me is like the Palace game last year. If you can get to the ground and greet the bus in, do it, if you can get some flares, get them. This is important. Yes people will says it’s always upto the fans etc etc but we need to turn up in our hundreds and thousands and show these guys what this means to us all once again!!!!!!

They are possibilities to win any of the 3 remaining away games. We just need to show more intent, be braver in possession, and maybe get a little bit of luck. Leicester, Wolves, Brighton are all tough in the circumstances, but they are not elite sides. We need to go out and earn a win at one of those grounds.

In fact we need to believe we can win any of the 6 games left. Strange results happen every year in the final month of the season, and we need to make sure we cause the unexpected results, not Leeds or Leicester or Forest or Southampton.

It all starts with mentality - does the manager set the team out to win, and do the players believe they will win. If so, we still have a chance.
I agree but I don't think Dyche is a man to set the team out to win, I suspect he will be looking not to lose games with the intent of overtaking Leeds and I expect the next 4 games will have quite a cautious approach. Then, if u are ahead of Leeds coming into the final two games I believe caution will prevail but if you are behind Leeds then I can see him going for it in the last two.

If youlre another club at the bottom you surley see Everton going to Palace and coasting to a draw against a team bang in form and know that we'll be going nowhere without a hell of a fight.

Since Dyche got here I've never thought - apart from a few of haves of football here and there - that we've ever been anything other than competitive in all our matches under him. You can bank on that continuing. If nothing else, you can bank on that.

A point on Thursday will suffice. I think we can get more tbh. It's all about us not them. Away to Leicester looks doable given we've won 4 of the last 6 there and won the last two against miles better Leicester teams. We should be looking for at least a point there and neutralise them.

They were in the second tier in the 70s, 80s, and 2010s....as said "yo-yo" club.

Norwich, Fulham and Watford are yo yo clubs. Palace aswell up to last decade.

Villa relegation in 2016 was first one in 30 years. Likes of Newcastle and West Ham have gone down 2-3 times in that period from top flight, Man. City aswell.

What's correct is Villa were circling the drain for many years before that eventual relegation. As were likes of Sunderland and Newcastle in 2010s so once you're down there it gets very hard to snap out of the losing mentality and eventually one year either luck runs or you're just so bad you just accept it from September onwards.

This season feels a bit of combination of both but there is still time and hope at least.

The club was relegated by the board when the Transfer Window slammed shut in January. Only team not to buy after flogging it's assets, hang ya head in shame Bill/Mosh with all ya Hangers On and Cronies and ya 'What Would The Everton Board Do ' Bullshyte !!!
No it wasn't.

GD away from safety with 6 games left. You're having a laugh aren't you?

That is my thinking.

We have just about survived last season and this season might go the same way and no doubt we will struggle next season as well with a potential punishment if found guilty by this commitee.

Take our medicine and get relegated so we have can have a full reset from the board, owner and the big earners off the wage bill.
We're in such a financial mess that it could finish us off for decades. Points deductions for finances, administration and more points deductions are all possible if we drop. If, as many thought, Moshiri is little more than the ventriloquists dummy, the funding will run out. There's no guarantee that he wouldn't asset strip anything of remote value to claw back some losses. He would certainly struggle to continue to fund the tens of millions of yearly losses we rack up. What we have today isn't fun and isn't enjoyable but it could get worse.

I fear the great reset would be more of a great implosion.

I really want some of whatever you are smoking or whatever those happy pills are. It must be like that lovely excited feeling we had as kids waiting for Santa to visit and come down the chimney and leave us presents.
Sorry if I'm wrong mate but I'm just detecting a bit of voyeurism from you. You are having a good season there without wallowing in our misery. That's what I'd be concentrating on.

In comparison with us they are.

I've known them to be second tier clubs three times in my memory.

They're an established English club with a great history like us, but their fans dont have the same experiences as us. That's not possible. Only Arsenal fans know what we know.

I know many on here will probably not believe me but the 3 years in the championship were really enjoyable. The target of getting promoted is a realistic goal and that brings with it so much more excitement. I appreciate that there are massive financial challenges facing a club upon relegation but I don't really see the point of worrying about them. If the worst happened and EFC was set to enter administration then it would just mean that Moshiri leaves the club having lost bag loads of cash and you get a new owner. Everton has too big a brand and has too much potential for an investor not to pick it up, there is no risk of Everton disappearing. I think it is more fun to enjoy the ride rather than getting worried about 'what ifs'.
When we were relegated went down with 17 points following a few years of dire football and no excitement. Furthermore, when we went down we were joined by Newcastle. That was only 7 years ago. Today, Newcastle sit 3rd in the league and Villa sit 6th in the league. Relegation does not have to be the doomsday scenario many believe it could be
