Some crumbs of comfort after last night.

A mere ten days ago most of us thought two points were as many as we were going to get from the two upcoming games and many thought even that was a pipedream.

We got three so we are a point to the good.

As ever, @davek , the sage of GOT, put it in perspective when he said the important thing was we were still in touch with safety when the dust settled after Arsenal and the RS.

Thanks to the win against Arseanal we are indeed well in touch and a win on Saturday lifts us into the safety zone.

Onwards and upwards from here on in ;)

Exactly. The Arsenal result + the continued direness of those below and just above us has offered us the chance on Saturday to make the massive psychological breakthrough of getting out of the relegation zone and to a likely 16th this weekend.

However, it seems the death cult want no such reasoning and demand relegation right now to make them happy.

We're now down.
40 minutes apart.

I'd argue the importance of the Leeds game on Sat is on par with anything last season including the Palace game. I'm not even saying it will be between us & Leeds that go down but we need to win and keep the likes of Leeds down there with us. It's absolutely massive. In fact my sensible head says 3 points over these is much better than 3 points over midtable Liverpool.

It is, same with the Forest game, those are the type of games that will save us, games up if we lose these games, the Arsenal cushion will soon be gone

It was meant to say we're not down. How could it have not have been given what I;ve been saying here?

My one lapse ahs been after that window shut and I thought we we're done for and said we'd go down.

But the wretchedness of all those down at the bottom from west ham down and that Arsenal performance gives us a lot of hope.

Fair enough, just looked a bit odd is all.

It is. Because it directly damages a rival. We win, they lose.

For me, we'll know a lot after this. If we can win, I think we have every chance. If we lose, I think the trend is obvious and the opportunities to earn points and damage a rival to get out of things reduce further. At some point, we have to prove we are better than three other sides. Saturday is a great opportunity. Or maybe we need to get off the pot, because losing to Southampton, Bournemouth, West Ham, and Wolves - and not beating Leeds or Forest - would suggest we are where we deserve to be: heading to the Championship.

Almost don't want to speak it into existence, but I think you're right. Could be a decider honestly. Plenty of games left so anything could happen, but the most likely scenario at the moment is that it will be between us and Leeds.

0.8 points per game so far. 22 games played, 18 points.

If we get 1 point per game average until end of season we finish on 34 points. But wait: We still play Chelsea (a), United (a) and City (h) - not forgetting just as tough games against Spurs, Brighton and no doubt Newcastle. But take off those first three games we are 100% losing and we have 13 games left.

We'll need to take close to 1.4 points a game from those 13 games to finish on 35 points, which you'd imagine is close to the very minimum points we'll need to stay up, but likely still too few.

We're not doubling our points-per-game and finishing on around 38/39 points. We're going down.

That’s not how stats work lol

You can’t take games out to work out the average needed because you deem them to be tough games, that makes no sense.

We got a point against United and Chelsea away last season, btw. But you’ve declared them guaranteed losses. Ridiculous.

100%.

I'd never say never if we lost to Leeds but I think it would be pretty damning. What we cant keep doing is losing these games though. At the very least get a point, if we'd done that against Southampton, Wolves, West Ham things would look a little different.
