Would be just our luck if West Ham boot Moyes, replace him with Benitez and he pulls half a dozen wins out the bag to send us down. Bet he'd love that.
Tbf I think it would be great if they sacked Moyes and went for Rafael. Everyone knows what he will play. 5 at the back counter attacking football. West Ham would hate it even more than under Moyes. Defensive and miserable football.

You’re exaggerating some of this I think. Yes there is a massive revenue shortfall (100m plus) which sounds scary but there’s a 45m year one parachute payment, we are owed 25m for Moise Kean, and would likely bank about 70m from the sales of Pickford and Onana. Those two departures as well as Doucoure and Mina out of contract also represent about 20m a year in wages. All of which more than covers the revenue drop- although it would of course be prudent to ship out other high earning players, but it needn’t be a complete fire sale.

The key question is where our finances currently sit which is hard to know when we don’t know results for 21/22 yet, but I’ve seen Esk project with the Gordon sale we could be close to break even this season which would be a significant help when it comes to FFP, whichever division we end up in.

Yea, this is what I'm thinking.
No idea where our finances are but presuming they're not terrible,
Parachute payment plus 80 odd million selling players, good young loanees to come back, older ones gotten off the books and there probably isn't need for a massive fire sale.
Sell Pickford, Onana, Iwobi and possibly DCL, off load Mina, Gomes, Gbamin, Dele,
Then it's probably up to Dyche who else he keeps.

quick question on the championship.
Do we really need to sell the high earners?
Is there some sort of championship FFP?
Could we just take the money we banked on gordon and put it toward plugging the gap between TV revenue from the PL to the championship.
We'd have Gordon money and a parachute payment.
I'd imagine Onana and Pickford would be gone but other than that, there must be a chance of keeping every other player if they're wanted.
realistically mate who would you even want to keep? they’re all rubbish

Form table gives me optimism , we're 13th with Palace , Bournemouth and Leeds bottom 3. Palace haven't won a match this year.
The other notable thing about Palace is that they haven’t won a match all year but have more or less maintained their league placing with a few draws, which tells you how few points all those below them are getting. The fact no one can catch and pass a team that can’t win suggests the safe points total might not be as high as some expect.

Yeah and we all hope that.

But my point wasn't aimed at the specific manager choice, it was saying that he's come in to fix a problem with the wrong tools at his disposal.
And wasn't given the chance to bring a few of his own to do the job in hand.

Until a few specific players are back he's stuck looking around the squad scratching his head.

Not making changes earlier yesterday was probably more down to seeing the list of options he has in front of him.
He has specialists in all positions barring a target man. He knows what a decent defence and midfield he has. Tarkowski is the best blocker in the PL and Gueye the best with interceptions. Iwobi is 5th for assists.

We may not have a forward line bristling with firepower, but we have players who like to get up into the opposition box who, now that they are tasked with scoring, will start getting shots and headers off. 6 Everton players in the opposition box to get the pen; 6 in the Forest box for the Doucoure goal. Doucoure's goal yesterday was a perfect example of what can be done with two CBs teeing that goal up. Coleman again forcing the issue in the opposition box too. Garner can add to that pressure that Dyche wants to mount on the opposition.

I think Begovic would do well in the championship
as would Patterson, Tarkowski, Godfrey, Brantwaith, maybe Miko, Doucoure, Gana, Gray, Townsend, McNeil, DCL might want to get his career back on track.
Add in Mills, Warrington, Price, Canon and Simms. Use Coleman and Davies as squad fillers.
You've dumped a lot of high earners and got a bit back in player sales but I think there's the bones of a squad that can challenge for the playoff spots. Get one decent striker in and they'd do quite well.

I thought we needed fresh legs around 70 minute mark. We couldn't retain the ball, so we needed to up our energy. Likewise I thought Maupay would've added some snide up top in what was already a scrappy game.

He could also have brought on an extra CB with Mina.

Still, I'd have accepted a point before that game. If we beat Brentford then we'll be on course ppg wise since Dyche was hired to get out of this, and it'll be a major boost to get out of the bottom 3. I know Brentford are a tough nut to crack, but we've played them 3 times in the last year or so and, though it's honours even, I say we've been the better team in all 3 games. I fancy us.

People don’t believe it but that’s the nuts and bolts of a good championship team, and realistically better than anything other than maybe the other relegated sides will have. You can add Maupay and Garner too both of whom have done very well at that level, and then we will still have some room after sales to try to get in some relatively inexpensive players and make good use of loans from the top Pl sides.

It’s become received wisdom that the championship is tougher than people think but I think that’s almost gone the other way and the standard is overrated- we are talking about a league where Maupay scored 20 plus goals.

Home advantage too. The big concern I have with Brentford is they'll have a bit of a siege mentality because of Toney.

I've thought about how we might look as a championship squad.

We'd have a very good backline at least. Pickford and Onana would be sold, I suspect Gana would be let go too due to wages and him not wanting to play in the championship. Doucoure will be let go too due to wages and desire. Aside from that, I think we'd be left with;

Begovic, Coleman, Patterson, Keane, Holgate, Branthwaite, Mykolenko, Tarkowski, Garner, Davies (sadly), Gray, McNeil, Calvert-Lewin, and Maupay. Add in the young lads as you say and we've got a half decent squad there (for the championship anyway). I'd expect us to come straight back up at the first time of asking, as the board will have all been hounded out and hopefully we'd be run semi-competently.

We do have a number of Championship-level players, so in theory they should do better in the second division than the top tier but by the same token, we'll be the "big scalp" every team down there will want to take. We've seen this team and these lads crumble so many times, there's always the chance it could happen even more frequently because every other team will be trying that little bit harder against us. Dyche will have to get them mentally prepared for that.
