It’s not like we are 2 points from safety because we have been terrible all season. We have been much better than the majority down there in reality. We will keep picking up points and we will get to safety.
That's not the point...we will be missing money that we desperately need by finishing at best 17th again when we should probably be closer to mid table in normal circumstances.

I fully expect it. It won't be unexpected to me. We could never rely on those three clubs remaining so poor. Forest underlined last year that a team can start poor then be competitive.

Basically, those 14 points we ran up before this mess was our insurance money. That's now gone and we find ourselves favourites to go down IMO.

The morale will be floored in the next few tough games if we're adrift by a few more points...and I expect that btw...and the likely injuries we'll get will see us into the Championship.

People seem to be minimising this and grasping at the straws of 3 teams defo worse off than Everton - a belief held by others outside of Everton today.

They're living in a dreamland.
We were 5 points adrift with a handful of games left, Lampard in charge and 3rd place Chelsea to play in our next game a couple of seasons ago.

It makes it tougher than it would have been and we have tough games coming up but I’d be so disappointed if we can’t get 1 or 2 total points more than Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United over the course of 26 games. We’ve just got 8-10 points more than them in 12 games. Injuries could play a part but we’ll have to see how that goes.

Maybe not hopefully we get the reduction reduced for now tho. The only objective we have is to survive again sadly.

That sounds reasonable, of course, but let's say we lose 0-3 to Man United the next day, lose DCL for six weeks - an Everton six weeks - and one of Luton, Burnley, or Sheffield United pick up an unexpected three points as a result of a bad VAR call. We are not so superior to the bottom three to think we can give them a 10-point start, survive the inevitable injuries, and ride any upswing in their form and still stay up.

We're walking a tightrope now. It wouldn't be a huge shock if we lose to United, Newcastle, and Chelsea over the next month. We could be six points from safety in that circumstance...

I'm outraged by today's farce. But when you've lived through the injustice of the European ban, this is more grist to the mill. Nevertheless, today puts us right in trouble. I hope those minimising today's disaster because the three promoted sides are so poor will pipe well down when one of them takes 7 from 9 and DCL cries off for six months.

If we beat United next week, I'll start to believe we can extricate ourselves from this with some comfort. But a bad reversal and a win for Luton or Burnley will soon turn up the heat and dial down the complacency in here.

This is a very good point. 5 points adrift and a little panic will set in. Even if we do, as I expect, pull away it’s going to be rough for a few months.

The scenario I fear is plausible: we lose to United, Newcastle, and Chelsea, maybe draw at Forest. Meanwhile, Burnley go on a run, taking, say, 5 from 9. We play them on the 16th and lose away. DCL goes down with a knock. Panic. A spiral becomes possible then as each match comes with the fear of being cut adrift in January.

Odds are in our favour still according those who know.

I was confident we would stay up yesterday. Today not so sure. Yes we are better equipped than last season to pick up points and the three promoted sides look awful but a couple of injuries or suspensions to key players and we are struggling. We have a best eleven that is decent but after that the drop off is significant.

We’ll have to see what happens with injuries but we were 6 points adrift of Leicester after 20+ games last season and finished above them in the end. There’s still a good chunk of the season left whatever happens in the next couple of games.

One or two of the teams above Luton, Burnley and Sheffield United will probably get dragged in too, Fulham for example have looked poor. Bournemouth had a good win but can they sustain it?

I just prefer to see us go down on the field - not off it. Anything can happen now - and, according to the "independent" committee, we gained "no sporting advantage" in whatever rule we broke. The whole thing is a witch hunt designed to satisfy other agendas. We're effectively being threatened with relegation because we couldn't sell Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Dyche has to sort out the home form. Next 5 games don’t scare me on paper and are all very winnable if we get it right. We won’t win them all of course but a decent point haul shouldn’t be beyond us. Unless Michael Keane comes in. Then we are screwed. This is the fine line we are walking.
