2020/21 Richarlison

We haven't spent a huge amount since that summer of utter madness when Koeman was manager and Walsh DOF. And there are still poor players from that time being given more chances.

We dont move players on. If you aren't willing to make tough decisions to move players on then you will never improve.

Anyway, Richarlison is literally one of about 3 players we have who i would be disappointed to lose. Having him in the side makes us better, even when he plays poorly.
It is clear this is what we are trying to do

It’s not just big sums though, it’s wages being paid for little contribution and our wages to turnover ratio. Townsend and Gray we’ll see about but they’re not here doing charitable outreach between them they’ll be on 80-100k a week and two and three year contracts. If they don’t contribute then we’ll be stuck with them paying their wages for the duration of their contracts like we were Besic, Cuco etc. Paying good wages to middling squad players who know they won’t get the same wages elsewhere has been a problem too.
I don’t know what they are on but the only figures I have seen are significantly less. Gray was on 50 at Leicester and he was unhappy in Germany, so certainly not more, Townsend was out of contract and wanted to stay in the PL. He was on 60 at Palace so I would suggest less with us.

They were arguably our best players yesterday. Highest rated.

They will certainly add to the squad and give actual options. Gray is rapid and will start quite a few. They are not on long contracts, two years with options to extend.

We are financially constrained.

We have wasted fortunes and it’s what we can afford. Get used to it.

A top half finish will be a massive success this season.
We had a top half finish with this exact squad last season. If we don't finish at least tenth with a similar points total Benitez will have failed. Facht.

It’s really weird that so many don’t see we have the exact same team that was challenging for Europe until the final weeks of last season minus a few ineffective options we got rid of who have been replaced by a couple of ‘potentially more effective but remains to be seen’ players.
A lot of our squad are of a decent age too so you could even argue the likes of Richarlison, DCL, Godfrey should be getting better with experience too.
We also have 22 days of the window left so whilst things could get worse, they could also get better.
If anyone out there thinks our current team isn’t good enough to beat an Ings-less Southampton on opening day then they’re just being silly really. The only player I’d have from them is Ward-Prowse.

We showed as last season went on that we could be good enough to win away at Arsenal and Liverpool but still be poor enough to lose at home to Newcastle, Burnley Sheffield Utd and Fulham. So why would people thinking we could lose to Southampton be silly? (Wallcot coming back to score??????)

Relegation six pointer.

Read again, I said thinking we’re not good enough to beat Southampton is silly, not that we might lose. The RS lost to Southampton last season and they were certainly good enough to beat them but nothing is guaranteed in the premier league :)

Did you not read either of my posts or what?
I said people thinking we’re not good enough to beat Southampton are silly, I didn’t say thinking we might not beat them is silly because any team might not win any game, hence my example of Liverpool losing games they were good enough to win.

Oh yeah, nice one, another thing I didn’t say, cool.
Great debate champ, have a nice evening.

We shouldn't lose to Saints but I wouldn't put us on an acca!
