….Simms is already a much better back-up than Rondon. This isn’t a lazy, throwaway statement, it’s an opinion based on reasoned evidence.

I watched him a bit at U23 and he only came alive when the ball was in the box or played in behind, his link up plays and back-to-goal technique left a lot to be desired but I’ve been pleasantly surprised at his progress.

He was a handful for the Rangers CBs in the Cup Final, a pairing that reached the EL final. He’ll run the channels, he’ll win headers, he‘s powerful, deceptively fast, progressive & carries a genuine goal threat. Rondon is laborious, can’t keep up with quick breaks, offers no opposition running channels & never looks like scoring.

I watched that final and bar missing a great chance early on, he wasn't involved in the game.

Yeah, but Simms is young and Rondon is experienced, so that automatically makes him better to a grizzled grumpy old man like Goat

How good an actual player Simms is, that's immaterial

Simms is garbage

Simms will struggle at premier league level
Has all the attributes he needs size stature
But doesn't have that one important piece of the jigsaw the natural ability that's required to play at the upper echelon

Coaching gets you so far but the i.t factor does the rest

Rondon has scored 43 goals in 174 Premier League appearances. If Simms will never achieve that level then he might as well go and stack shelves at Tesco. He's 21 and scored 17 in 46. Not the Premier League but he's learning his trade. May well not be good enough for Everton long term but I'm not sure we should be writing him off just yet.

…I called Simms ‘progressive’. He’d have a hunger to get better, to treat every performance like it matters. Having that attitude is a major plus.

its about effectiveness for me & I see Simms as already more effective. Worth noting that Dobbin isn’t really a back-up central striker, so unless we bring a player in, Simms and Rondon are the only conventional striker options for DCL. especially if Richarlison leaves. DCL could have injury problems going forward.

Rondon coming good? He’s 32 he’s at the level he is, he’s just a decent back up striker. What makes simms look like a great prospect? A goal every 3 games isn’t bad but we’re talking 3rd tier and Scotland
If simms was going to breakthrough he’d have done it by now.
its not going to happen, BUT i would love it if he scores 60 goals next season- get it? Simms could be a battering ram CF for us, a different option to what we have at the moment. Rondon might be a decent back up striker in a championship team, not for us sorry. Simms is 21, give him his chance and see if he takes it.

Simms at best would be a anichebi type forward benched and get 10 mins here and there ..
score the odd goal against the relegted team in the league but NEVER improve or progress and end up being a groaner for the park end

We don't know whether Simms can do it at PL level - he hasn't had the chance.
We do know that Rondon can't do it at PL level - he's had too many chances.

I would accept just a single Premier League goal.
He has made one PL appearance. And has DCL ahead of him. He was then sent out on loan so couldnt exactly fill in for DCL. Bit harsh.

I'm not saying he will make it, but last season, DCL was in the England squad, hard to be shouting for DCL to be dropped to give a chance for a youngster.

….this discussion isn’t about him being the next DCL, it’s about whether he’d be a more effective back-up than Rondon.

If Richarlison & DCL stay and we bring another striker in then the case for Simms becomes weaker.
