2021/22 Richarlison

Balance these with:

Does he want to leave? Yes
Are the club privately content with selling a key asset as we need the money? Yes.

Richarlison said in July 2020 that he could leave Everton but that Ancelotti had asked him to wait.

“He's bringing in new players, so we'll sit down and talk, but I think I can hold on for another season."
Yes but the club aren’t or shouldn’t take a low offer just because Richarlison wants to leave!

The club hold out for what they want or very close to it, if that doesn’t happen he stays! It’s business

80 mill isn’t one of the highest fees in the world any more though. Neymar was more than double that. Coutinho and Dembele were higher. Grealish, Lukaku has moved for around that figure twice pre and post Neymar’s move. Kane was going to go for over 100. Ronaldo moved for that fee back in 2009. Even Pepe set Arsenal back about 70 mill.

It’s a high fee but it’s no longer one of the highest fees in the world.

Well it would still be one of the highest fees wouldn't it?

They're in euros too.

This strikes me as a Levy leak to try and get him for a lower fee. We need to hold firm there will be multiple bids in the next few weeks I think
Struck me the opposite - the Athletic mentions sources close to Everton so it struck me as us putting it out there that Spurs are seriously interested to try to force other interested clubs to get a move on.

A player wanting to leave definitely affects his value. Especially if he publicly states he wants to go. This is the option / threat that players and agents keep as a back up. At that point, the club find it very difficult to keep him because the fans turn on him and performances usually drop. The buying club know this and it makes sense for all parties to reach a deal.

As it is with most players, it’s about ambition for Richarlison. As the club do not have the funds to have us competing for Europe for least another 2 years, that will be the biggest factor for him.

Balance that with this then :

Does he want to leave - He hasn’t said anything at all.

The club have told him that they want him to stay, that they want to build the team around him and he’ll be getting a massive bump on his contract. ( this is from someone I know very well, who has business dealings with his agent )

How about wait and see ?

You didn't ask a very important question at the start that negates everything else you said.

Did we overpay for him in 2018? Yes
There are a few examples recently which show we should be asking for a big fee.

Pepe is the obvious one. He cost over 70m and is not close to the level of Richarlison. They overpaid clearly, but it still happened.

Grealish went for 100m. Good player, and different role, but doesn't have the same goal return as Richarlison and is a little older.

The lad the reds are signing is going to cost much more than £50m and has no pedigree at a good level. He might well be a top player, but again this shows how the market has moved (so much for them not spending money as well)..

I'm not saying we ask for 90 or £100m, but there are examples out there that show £51m or whatever it converts to, is nowhere near enough. If we sell for 50, we've caved in. We need over 60m and probably over 65m before we are getting the market value.

We got him for £45m we surely ain't selling him for £51m,crazy if true.

What we paid for him isn't really relevant to what we can sell him for tbh. When we bought him we could spend whatever we wanted, we're now extremely desperate for money. Totally different situations.

Like Kane you mean? Or numerous other occasions when players wanting moves didn't get them and carried on fine.

Gerrard being another high profile example.

Yes, it is not impossible, sure. But for every one you can name, there are probably 20 who did go on to leave.
