Riots in the UK...

This is the symptom of a young generation that's been left unchecked, have too many rights and have no fear of consequence. They don't give a sh*t in school, they have disdain for authority and have parents who are keen on blame rather than personal responsibility.

I've been working in universities for 6 years and I don't recognise that description to be honest with you mate.

Mate I'm no stranger to hard times.. When I was 18, my gramma got me a bus ticket for Ohio from florida, I had no cash, no food for 3 days on that ride up, no education because I dropped out of high school and chose a life of drugs.

I chose to get my diploma, I chose to join the Army, I chose to go to college.. I could have easily chose crime but I didn't.
Simple as that.

Not trying to pry and you don't have to answer, but i'm sure you had your reasons for that yet i reckon someone somewhere would of called you a worthless druggie loser for that, they would of just judged you from what they saw on the outside rather than understanding your reasons for being what you are and doing what you did.

Sure you got out of it and turned thinsg around, good on ya of course it can be done, you didn't play the victim.

I bet anything though you weren't surrounded by loads of people in the same boat and didn't feel a complete sense of worthlessness and that no matter how hard you tried to get out of it you were just always gonna be known as an ex druggie so what was the point of trying to get anywhere? If you did even more wll done but you're an exception.

You get where i'm coming from, things always go much deeper than whats on the surface.

And everybodies different, everybodies circumstances are different.

I'm not liking the generalisations to be honest. Most people my age aren't massive blerts like the ones out there setting fire to cars. Not even close.

I'm a lazy fecker like myself, and I'd agree my generation lacks the same work ethic of previous ones, but let's now blow anything out of proportion here.

The 'lost generation' have been royally dumped on. No mistake.

Clearly doesn't condone behaviour - but riots don't happen on a whim.

Where's EFCNIK??

Not being funny. But the Duggan family want someone to be "held accountable"

How about the one who gave their son the illegal pistol? Which the IPCC say had a chambered round?

Well that's not surprising considering you work in universities, after all people actually have to want to go to university to end up there.

At this point, from what I've read over the last 50 pages, I'd like to say that most of you seem to be thoroughly nice chaps / chappettes with a decent handle of morality. I duff my cap to you.

This is the type of person that is now 'rioting' and 'looting'.

Scummy youngsters with no maturity. It's embarrassing. How this all kicked off doesn't matter now, it's a free for all !

Yeah that's pretty much spot on.

I'm just not a fan of the generalisations. Just because I got what I wanted at Christmas and had an PS2 and a Gamecube doesn't mean I'm a self-entitled, thick-as-sh*t scumbag with no respect for authority.

CH4 News there saying they carried out interviews with The MET and IPCC on Friday and both said there was an 'exchange of gunfire' with Duggan. That's been now ruled out.
