Are you on the wind up? It's patronising because I doubt there is anyone here who doesn't know who Walter Smith is, or the fact that he was manager before Moyes, or that he was a bit rubbish.

Wouldn't be so quick to say you know your stuff if you don't know the difference between facts and conjecture. Nobody knows what the reaction would have been on here if this site was around and as popular at the time because it wasn't.

I'd suggest that in a second full season into the job, doing worse than the manager who had been SACKED would not be viewed favourably on GOT, for any future, past, or present manager.

Hardly rocket surgery is it mate?

The same West Brom who are one point ahead of us, having played a game more whilst scoring 21 fewer goals and conceding five less? Yeah, great example that mate.
More points mate, that's a that matters. If we score more than Leicester this year, does that stat matter?

Moyes admitted his mistakes sat down with the squad and listened. He had 1 terrible season, Bobby has had two, with what appears to be a better selection of players. The fact that the whole Moyes finished 17th made me hope last year was a one off. Now we know which season was the one off.
And are you blaming Gibson & Pienaar for our bad form? That they're disturbing the manager?

Not blaming anybody. You do know that Duncan was one of the players opposed to Moyes more than most in that 03/04 season? He then went on to score THAT goal against the mancs to help us secure a place in the top 4..... He was then brought back to the club by Moyes as a coach.

What I'm suggesting is that a few disagreements do not have to mean the beginning of the end for a manager. Neither do a few poor results....

Fair point, I just don't see how bringing in a new manager will give us a better chance in the semi (especially as it will mostly be someone already on the staff being bumped up to interim manager)
I was of the same opinion to be honest, but things look to be going downhill rapidly. We've got 2 games in 5 days both against prospective FA cup final opponents. If we lose both of them then I think the best thing would be to sack him and ask Joe Royle to step in supported by Ferguson, Unsworth and Sheedy.

Wouldn't have thought so but it would be nice to think that a bit of good grace would have been established with finishing 7th the year before, we'll never know for sure but I think it's hard to judge because there seems to be less patience now with things like the sack race etc. I know Chelsea aren't a great example but could you imagine a manager winning the champions league or league and getting sacked the next season in the early 2000's?

Define a few..
If no one's blaming players why are you mentioning Duncan as an example? Dunc sparked Moyes didn't he? Dunc realised Moyes knew more than he did and wanted back into footy. He apologised. Rooney has also apologised to Moyes. Fallouts happen. They are very different characters to Baines.

End of the day, Martinez’s performance as manager hasn't been good enough. A cup win may change the perception of that to some.

Obviously different circumstances. He still 'lost' the players though, and significantly, managed to achieve a lower points total than anything Walter Smith had achieved.

It's well known that there was massive discord between Moyes and the players that season, and the players effectively downed tools and donned the flip-flops once safety was assured. Then we added a couple of proper men to the squad in Cahill and Bent, who just got on with their job and started the ball properly rolling for moyes.

I love Barkley, but I'd swap him for 2004 Cahill in a heartbeat.
You're rewriting history there Moyes is on record as having a clear the air talk with the players and sending the players wives flowers as way of an apology. He clearly learnt a lesson from it and changed his approach. I see no evidence in the way that Martinez conducts himself to show he's capable or willing to do that.

Flores: Blame me for poor form
  • Last Updated: April 7 2016, 14:26 BST
Quique Sanchez Flores has taken full responsibility for Watford's miserable run of form in the Barclays Premier League.

While the Hornets can look forward to an FA Cup semi-final against Crystal Palace later this month following an historic victory at Arsenal, they have won on just two occasions in 12 league matches since the turn of the year.

Watford, who have slipped to 14th in the table, host Everton at Vicarage Road on Saturday off the back of four straight league defeats.

"The responsibility is the coach," said Flores, the Spaniard managing in English football for the first time this season. "I need to transmit what the focus and target is.

"At the moment the players don't respond in the way that I like because I am not able to transmit the necessary ambition to play the matches in the Premier League. So, I prefer to assume the responsibility. I have to support these players.

"We have a couple of distractions. The first one is that we got 37 points a long time ago. We have the feeling that everything is done in the league, but this is not a good thought because we need to compete and we need to add more points.

"And the other distraction is the FA Cup. In the club, we talk a lot about the FA Cup. It is our fault, we need to change the mentality and we have told the players that. We need to recuperate the focus as quickly as possible."

Watford are just one win away from the magical 40-point mark which will all but secure their status in the top flight for second successive campaign.

But Flores, who has no fresh injury concerns ahead of the visit of Everton, believes his side should be targeting more than just safety in the final seven matches of the Premier League.

He added: "We have the responsibility to be ambitious, it is not about the points. Thirty-seven points could be enough, or it could be not enough.

"We haven't lost the level on the training ground, they are training well, so, I don't know what happened in the last matches against Stoke and Arsenal where we lost the focus. I promise the fans that they are going to fight, and the players are focused on the task."

That's more refreshing than a Fanta lemon on holiday. That's the attitude I want from my manager.

Can it actually get any worse? I think there's only one way for Martinez to go, and that is up.

And I'm not doing this to be controversial, I like the man, there is something about him and I am dying for him to succeed, maybe I'm soft and would hate him to lose his job as we all know he is working hard to build something here. I just him to acknowledge his wrong-doings and have that same inspiration he had two years ago. I've got a soft spot for him as he's a really nice person.

Picture us without a top class striker and Martinez still in charge next season, then imagine us doing better than we are this season. It's terrifying.
