Genuinely don't think the outcome of the CHELSEA game (assuming we dip) will have any bearing on his future, ultimately it's CHELSEA in a cup quarter and they're on the up....which is pretty much what he'll say if we get turned. If we win like, well, there's still a way to go, draw dependent like...
It's the remaining league fixtures that are gonna decide his fate, quickly. I genuinely feel that may happen sooner rather than later too because (and having looked at them again and again, pffff...) it'll simply take a couple of poor ones to make - IMO - his position pretty well untenable. It keeps being bandied that the new owner is a 'football man' etc, that he knows and enjoys the game, all that. Well if that's the case then he, like every other neutral, will be scratching his head and wondering how Bob has a squad of A + B and has managed to come up with, well, F-All really. Except he's NOT a neutral now is he, old FAZ, and he has (or will have) the reigns. And all this 'But BOB has been involved in the process?' stuff being bandied about as a 'positive', affirming thing.....well, and what? Big WOW... OF COURSE he has spoken to BOB, of course BOB has been involved in 'discussions' etc. What's he gonna do...blank him? This 'involvement' isn't a seal of approval or a stamp of guaranteed managerial longevity and commitment to 'the project', it's protocol, that's it, and if you think for a single second that THE MOSH would lose sleep over tipping RM at the first inclination that he SHOULD tip him then you're off of your teats...you don't amass what he has by being sentimental - in a nutshell he's just bought a business with a fantastic, sought after staff-base that is (in likelihood) going to grossly under-perform....Again.
Really, with his work head on, what view do you think he'll take of that? Is he gonna invest in a manager who, for the most, offers mediocrity with the occasional bit of flair? The MANAGER has his supporters - and fair play to them, as I've said before, oddly I rather admire them - but the fact of the matter is the table doesn't lie. You're only as good as your position says you are.
And, despite some comparisons that have been made, I'd still sooner...in fact ALWAYS rather finish 5th than 15th.
And I'm absolutely positive the new owner would too.
