72 points mate, not 5th. 5th is nowhere. Always has been and always will be. 72 points is AN EVERTON PREMIER LEAGUE POINTS RECORD.
But Dave, 72 points is nowhere too, if the bar is higher. And the modern day bar is 4th. It's no good saying 'we'd have been 3rd any other season'.

Perhaps I'm being harsh.

Is that something that needs saying though. And if he did in the current climate wouldn't saying why he felt it was a good sub be interpreted as making excuses.
That particular sub is only the main focus on here because particular lines have been taken by many. I know most are deadly honest in their opinions on him but I think there are sections will only focus on what appeared to go wrong. Even that's within a narrative from some. There's a lack of people criticising him for playing Mirallas.
There are people calling for Mourinho as manager but presumably would join in the calls for humility from Martinez.
I'm happy to debate the sub on here because I'll talk anything Everton but outside this bubble it's the sending off and the pen miss and the penalty not given that are the talking points.

Whose askign for humility, their is a difference between being humble and having the balls and confidence to hold your hands up and take the blame when you [Poor language removed] up.

As for Mourinho and nearly every top manager - when they get it badly wrong then they have all at times taken the blame for it, Martinez never has once. That breeds a culture within the club as a club and player do get their character through the manager, and right now we have a group of players that doesn't accept blame or responsibility, are passive and 'nice', also they are losers just like our manager

Davek distracts from the main debate here and posts stuff to get a reaction.

It was much more civil when he was thread banned.
Yes, thread ban him because he disagrees and has a point....

So much easier to incite an angry mob when you ban those who disagree.
Maybe that's the fellas opinion. Best to debate things rather than get into stuff like this. What good would a discussion be if we all agreed?

A lot of people here need to realise that someone having a different opinion than them isn't grounds for abuse or personal digs.

yeah surely i can think howard is the best goalkeeper in the world as long as i dont insult people/break forum rules?

ps - i actually only think hes the SECOND best goalkeeper in the world

Yeah and it was all going great until he made a sub that effectively reduced us to 9 men. That was one of the worst subs I've ever seen in my life

I'm still in the Martinez fan club, but that substitution has still got me riled up when I think about it. I said it the other day, but I still can't get my head round why after being 2 up Martinez didn't just park the bus to see the game out.

All fair enough points Dave, one difference though which you can't seem to grasp, kenwright doesn't really control this club anymore though mate, but pretty sure that the new man in charge has bought this club wanting it to win - and the current manager doesn't win.

Question for you, did Martinez throw away and cost us the result against West Ham in your opinion?

The new feller has put Kenwright in charge of football affairs. It'd be unbelievable to think that he'd do that and then go over his head. It'd undermine Kenwright and make him look a fool. My guess is that Martinez will be in the same position start of next season as he was at the start of this season: looking to make a decent start or facing a review before the first international break in the Autumn. Anyone thinking there'll be a change before that are in a fantasy land of their own making.

West Ham: 10 professional footballers on the pitch reach 12 minutes from time with a 2-0 lead that the manager has been the architect of...then those players buckle under thir own cowardice to see the game out. That's what I saw. Did you read that tool Jagielka's post match comments mate? He said words to the effect that when they were pegged back to 2-1 'we knew we were in trouble'. 2-1 up at home with minutes to see out the game and that feller is shrinking like a violet and wanting the game to end instead of redoubling his resolve and those around him.

Captain my arse. Get shut and get a leader or two in. <<<<<<That is our problem and the source of our solution.

Source? How would anyone know that at this point in time?

When has Mourinho admitted to mistakes? And again why should Martinez explain every decision. It's clearly not the main talking point in the media. And if he was explaining decisions do you honestly think it make a difference to those who rightly or wrongly have made their minds up.

Has he been sacked yet? No? Ok I'll check in next week chaps

:coffee:

Disagree mate. Keep hitting 72 points and you WILL get CL footy. Keep hitting 5th and you'll get a pat on the head.

Twas ever thus.

I see a poster keep banging on 72 points. But it got you only 5th in the material season. I don't get this point telly thing. Moyes got us 4th on lesser points it doesn't mean 72 points (13-14 season) was a superior result because it still got you 5th. 99% of fans will prefer 4th than point telly which in the end get you 5th.

Talking about breaking record, 4 home wins since April 2015 with 4 home league games to go. Very likely that Martinez will break another record here.
