Well that sure was some read on the Martinez thread before it got curtailed. I'm going to try to keep this on topic and also try not to inadvertently insult somebody.
When I look at the league, I don't see a differentiation between the old first division and the premiership. To me it's the same league, always has been always will be. Anyway going back to Gordon Lee, his best finishes were 3rd in 77-78 and 4th in 78-79. Converting three points for a win,
77-78. Played 42, Won 22, Drawn 11, Lost 9 =77 points, 3rd place finish.
78-79 played 42, Won 17, Drawn 17 and Lost 8, 68 points.
So actually it's Gordon Lee who has managed our best ever points return, and not Martinez. (excluding of course the legendary Howard Kendall) I obviously stand to be corrected by anyone who is better at math than me.
When it comes to buying shares and sacking managers. Kenwright bought the club in 99 and without, to my knowledge, ever pumping any of his own money into the club still managed to sack Walter Smith in 2002. Looks like a precedent to me.
My point is and it's not to make cheap shots at anyone. Everton has a history of sacking underachieving managers. Maybe not recently but in the past we did. However passionately you argue in favour of our current manager, I think most of us can agree he is underachieving. I don't expect him to be sacked while we still have a chance of winning the F.A cup and to be fair I wouldn't advocate it. However his record needs serious consideration and with the arrival of Moshiri I think expectations and targets will be raised higher than they were previously.
